One day last week I was in the middle of watching a DVD when the phone rang,
and I paused the DVD and set the remote control down, and it hasn't been
seen since then, in spite of my losing at least five pounds in the process
of searching for it.

I can top that. I have a photo of my brother when he was a toddler, sent to
me by Mom in a frame. I took the photo out of the frame to scan it into the
computer. Meanwhile, the glass from the frame (we're talking 11 inches)
disappeared. Vanished. Vamoosed. I have no idea where the glass pane is.
It was sucked up into the void and will probably never be found again. And
trust me, it's hard to lose an 11" pane of glass even in this cluttered
office.

How many of you folks would like the manufacturers of televisions, VCRs, DVD
players and such to emulate the manufacturers of cordless telephones, by
putting buttons on the appliances that you can push to make the smaller
parts make a noise, so they can be located easily?

My TV has a slot in it where you put the remote when you're not using
it. It's really neat! Losing the TV remote is rare now. Of course,
this is a 25 year old TV and they don' t make them like that any more.
The DVD's "wand of power" goes missing all the time. Sigh. Even
worse, because some of those buttons aren't on the DVD player, and you
have limited control until you find the Wand of Power again.

That's why we started the basket system. I bought a wicker basket
that's ONLY for remotes. You have to dig through them all to find the
one you need though. It is ridiculous.

My aunt has a plastic box for her remotes. For the TV, video, DVD, CD
system etc.
I am lucky. I only have two remotes, one for my TV, which I watch maybe
once a week, and one for my VCR which I haven't used for about two years.
I don't have a DVD player (can't stay still long enough to watch a film) and
if I want to play a CD (rarely) I play it on my computer.

Grin... sounds just like my place, except with my terrible hearing the
remote would have to have flashing lights or bounce up and down or
something. BTW the remote can usually be found under a cat, if I dare to
look.
