OT - Had a bit of a surprise today!

I was reading (lying in bed) at around 2:00pm-ish this afternoon. Of course
I was surrounded by cats, and Moe was lying on top of me (in what would be
my lap region if I were sitting). She did the usual
turn-around-three-times-before-settling down (and I bet a lot of you thought
that was a d*g thing :D). Our garage is detached, and is behind the house,
the driveway runs past the house (on the north side). One of our bedroom
windows faces the driveway. I saw a flash of white out of the corner of my
eye in that window, and it was not accompanied by the sound of a cat hitting
the floor (as if he/she had just jumped down from the sill).

That got me curious.

I had to reposition a couple of cats and got out of bed (OK - I was *not*
being lazy, I was taking a break from finishing a cabinet that we had
purchased - oak with no stain or clearcoat, and we decided to just use a
furniture wax on it instead of a polyurethane or whatnot, I had just applied
the 2nd coat of wax and was letting it dry before using my poor arms and
buffing it off), and looked out the window, checking the drive for people or
vehicles.

Nuttin.

But across the yard, stepping through the fencerow into our neighbors back
yard (it's wooded and very wild looking) was a DEER. Whitetail version.

Whoa.

I had seen deer tracks in that area of the yard, but I hadn't expected to
actually *see* a deer there. Especially at 2 in the afternoon

That's an eye opener!!!!

I'm surprised you haven't seen one before-- they're getting gutsier
all the time. My brother's mother in law lives in suburban Maryland,
in a very woody area, and she even sees fawns. Lot of her neighbors
are driven bonkers by them, but they are just a lovely sight.

Actually, have to say, when I saw your subject line, I said to myself,
"What? A litter of kittens in her backyard?" LOL

Occasionally we have deer in our yard and I just love seeing them. I realize
they are a pest to so many people but they are just so beautiful.

Camera was in the other room - and deer was gone before I even *thought* of
going to go get it (that tells you A) how quick they are and B) how slow my
mind works :D)
