Hans Schrøder...
Some time ago, I told you about Bom Bom who had to be rehomed, not because
the owners abondoned him (as some of you thought), but because the lady who
kept him was moving and could not have him anymore.

For some weeks now, my ex-wife has taken care of him, and he has been having
a terrific life with her and her other two Devon Rex cats. Being just about
a year old, he soon learnt where his place was in the hierarchy. He was the
youngest, and the other two had been living there "for ages", and he
accepted that situation without any discussion.

My ex-wife's house is ruled by Loomis, a five and a half years old neutered
male. Next to him is Isis, his pregnant daughter, about four years old. Bom
Bom has been living in the bathroom from time to time. Not because he didn't
get on well with the other two, but he has had visitors... Two young queens
came to be mated. The first one was a success, the second was not! She
couldn't stand the sight of him, even though she was in heat, so she was
sent home again yesterday with no expected result.. In addition to these two
queens, Isis is expecting a litter with him in the middle of May. Popular
guy, Mr. Bom Bom :-)

But tomorrow it's over. He is going to his new home in Trondheim, 540 km
(335 miles) from here (Oslo, Norway). My ex is going to take him there
herself by car. Safety first.

This evening, anyhow, something happened that could have put the whole trip
at risk.

Devon Rex cats are mostly indoor cats. Their fur is not very strong, and the
Norwegian spring is not the warm kind of spring. But today was the warmest
day since new year, around 19 C (66 F), and the cats were out enjoying the
sun. But Bom Bom ran off and didn't come back. Two hours, three hours, he
had never been out for more than 20 minutes before... My ex got very worried
and started searching in the neigbourhood. She thought she heard him, but
couldn't find him. She went home again and asked Loomis if he could try to
find him. Silly thing to do, but Loomis went out, and a short time later he
came back with Bom Bom following him! Unbelievable, but that's just what
happened! He could ignore the calls from my ex, but not Loomis'...

Marina...
Happy-new-home purrs for Bom Bom. I experienced something similar with
Frank and Nikki once, when Frank found her for me after I'd asked him
where she was. The story is on Flippy's cat page at

Hans Schrøder...
Great story! How do they do this? Unneccesary question, they just know..

So let's all wish Bom Bom a happy ride to his new home, and that he will
continue to be the good boy he has been so far!

djmaizels...
Definitely! I hope he has now found his forever home. And well done
Loomis for bringing his 'brother' back again!

We just got back from a short business trip to Oslo, by the way! We've
never been before and found it a beautiful city, so much to see and do
and not nearly enough time to do it in. We managed to go to Vigeland
Park and Bygdøy, and walk around the central area and Aker Brygge, plus
do some shopping, naturally. What beautful weather too - I gather we
were very lucky, though! Definitely want to go back and spend longer as
we found Norway a really nice place to visit, very friendly people. Saw
no cats but plenty of smart dogs :-)

Hans Schrøder...
It was nice to read you had a pleasant time in Oslo. Oslo (and Norway) is
concidered one of the world's most expensive cities to visit, but there are
a lot of things to do and watch here. And I promise you, you haven't seen
more than the surface of Oslo yet.

djmaizels...
Sadly, we only had one free day for sightseeing, and there was so much
we couldn't do. Yes, we did find it expensive (even compared to London),
but well worth it - and it wouldn't put us off coming again. We'd love
to visit when the evenings are at their longest, it was so nice to have
extra daylight to enjoy.

Just give me a signal if you are going to return, and I will be happy to
guide you around.

djmaizels...
Thank you - that is a very kind offer!

You saw no cats? No wonder, there aren't many stray cats here. We are
responsible people, you know, but if you search for them you will find
them...

djmaizels...
I was glad that they were so hard to find. Other places we've visited,
e.g. Cyprus, there are skinny strays everywhere, including the main
shopping streets of central Nicosia, not a good place for a cat to be.
:-(

Finally, what is a smart dog??

djmaizels...
A very well-kept, well-looked-after dog, and also some fancy breeds I
hadn't seen before - including a very young French Bulldog we saw
playing joyfully in a park near the Royal Palace :-)

By the way, Bom Bom's trip to Trondheim went fine, and he is now safely
united to his new family!

djmaizels...
Yay for Bom Bom!

Adrian A...
Purrs for Bom Bom to have a long and happy life in his new home.

Monique Y. Mudama...
Sometimes it really seems that cats can understand us.

I hope that Bom Bom has a great new life in his new home.
