The Tao of scavenging

Last night, no econd helping of linguini with white clam sauce, Tao ate
the rest of the linguini fom the collander.

Just to provide a glimpse of what scavenging means to him, I was
snacking all the guys with kibble, everyone running about crying how
hungry they were, when I got to Tao's bowl (last in line) he was busy
with the almost-empty garbage pail. Forbidden fruits.

Last night I came home with some groceries, and when I stopped to get my
mail, I put the bags down for a second. It only took that long for Smudge
to get her head (and a good portion of her front end) into one of the
bags, where she managed to tear a hole in a bag of bread, and take a bite
out of some of it! I also had another bag, but this was a canvas bag with
long handles, so I had it slung over my shoulder. But when I got inside,
I put the bag down in the usual place where I dump my stuff after coming
in. Later on, I was on the couch watching a little TV, and saw Smudge
stick her head into that bag and start fanatically licking something. I
couldn't remember what I'd had in it that would smell good to a cat. Then
it hit me that the friend I'd visited had given me a small loaf of
homemade bread, and it was still in the bag! By the time I got up, the
loaf had a big hole in it.

She is not a normal cat!!

Heh, sounds exactly like Caliban. Whenever I cook pasta, he carefully
checks the colander to see if there is anything left. If there is, he
snarfs it down. he also likes to raid the bin, but I put a baby lock on
the cabinet under the sink, where the bins are, so he hardly ever does
that any more (except sometimes, when he manages to sneak in while I
open the door briefly).
