He's totally off his food

Whatever was in those first antibiotics I gave Vino, they seem to have
made him really ill. I got new antibiotics and got one dose into him
and he hasn't improved. In fact, he's totally off his food now, won't
eat a thing. Not ham, not kitty treats, not ground beef, nothing. He
dry heaves about 3 times a day and spits up clear stomach fluid. It's
getting worse and worse.

Monique Y. Mudama...
Oh man. I would get him to a vet. I just called the emergency vet
asking whether I should worry that Oscar had some diarrhea, and he
said no, but if she starts puking or seems ill to bring her in.

I've now got him in the bathroom and I'm going in every hour or so and
squirting a liquefied blend of canned food and water into his mouth with
a syringe. I really think he needs to get some nourishment into him.
Meanwhile, I've just given up on the antibiotics. At this point it
seems more necessary for him to eat something and feel better. Besides,
the scab fell off his injury, it looks well healed. I doubt there's an
abscess trapped underneath, it's on a bony part, right along his spine
and there's no swelling, no redness, nothing. And it doesn't hurt him
if I press on it either.
Poor Vino. I'm sure he could use some purrs for his tummy to improve.

Ramping up the purrs!

Monique Y. Mudama...
Of course.

Oh no! I missed this thread somehow and just saw it this morning. I am
very worried about Vino now. This sounds too much like when Yoda got
HL. I sure don't want to scare you worse than you already are, Britta.
But you are absolutely wise to force-feed him to protect his liver.
Nutrical would be very good for him.
Please update. Lots of purrs coming for Vino.

Victor Martinez...
Lots of purrs for Vino to eat soon.

polonca12000...
Lots and lots of purrs for Vino,
Polonca and Soncek

Rusty is sending purrs to a fellow orange cat down under. Rusty had
similar problems when he was on antibiotic. It was this past March that
the vet switched antibiotic because Rusty stopped eating. He also
spitted out clear fluid. She said it is important to get Rusty to eat,
didn't matter what even though Rusty is on a prescription diet for
urinary problems. He actually had an urinary infection at the time. The
vet suggested I tried Hill's A/D with a syringe. Fortunately Rusty
started eating again on the secpmd antibiotic. She also told me
to give him Pepsid A/C to settle his stomach.
Another time when Rusty stopped eating while on a month long dose of
antibiotic for a
bladder infection, the vet changed the dosage slightly after stopping
the antibiotic for a day.
That was enough to get him eating again. I was very relieved.

You should talk to your vet before stopping the antibiotics.
