Does anyone else go shopping on that day like myself. If so speak ;-)

For the people who don't know what this "Black Friday" is, the US
holiday Thanksgiving always falls in a Thursday. The next day is
"Black Friday", the first day of the Christmas shopping season.
I'm not sure why "black" Friday and not "green" (as in money) Friday,
but I'm sure it has something to do with stores being absolutely
packed with shoppers, and parking lots are jammed even more. It's

I usually steer clear of stores at that time, but this year I might
brave one store because of a special treat that I've been given.
I've been helping my father deal with problems on a website he
maintains, and it's turned out to take a lot more time and effort
than either of us expected it to. So he offered to repay me with
some kind of treat, and I asked for a gift certificate to my favorite
fabric store. Wheee!!! They have some of the most beautiful fabrics
I've ever seen, many of which are usually beyond my budget. But I've
decided to do over my living room with a new color scheme, which means
new curtains and pillows to make.
Also, I just got a new couch ("new to me", that is - it was a freebie,
and it's in great shape - kitties love it, too :)). The couch is a
lovely deep rust brown, one of my favorite colors. I'm going to
compliment it with curtains, pillows, wall art and other pieces in
browns, coppers, rusts, and ambers. Maybe paint the walls (which
desperately need it) a pale terra cotta.
So, I can't wait to shop for fabrics. I probably won't go on Friday
itself, but Saturday or Sunday for sure!

only made worse because many companies give their employees that
Friday off too, increasing the crowds.
I have a cousin who always goes shopping that day, and swears that she
gets all of her shopping done that day too. As for me, you couldn't
pay me enough money to go into a store that day (and pretty much the
entire weekend as well).

Okay, I'd never heard the term applied to that day. Now I know. The answer
is, I did. Once. Many years ago, my husband and I naively decided that,
since many people don't get that day off, it would be a better day to shop
than on a weekend, so we went to a mall. Never again! I do not to well in
crowds.

I don't either, Joyce. I really avoid it. Sometimes I wish I weren't
like that. But OTOH, I never catch colds or flu in the winter. That
might be the reason. :-)

I never have, but I'm thinking about it for this year. Any savvy
advice from a pro?

Spend Thursday checking out all the ads. Decide exactly what you intend to
buy and go there first and early.
This in NOT a day to be out window shopping.
I don't go unless I really really think something is a great deal. I bought

It couldn't hurt. The only time I wish I weren't like that is when I get
stuck in a crowd. ;-)

Charlie goes every year to stock up on things like soft drinks and any other
loss leaders he sees.

I worked most of my life in the very heart of downtown. On the Friday
after Thanksgiving, it was impossible to even find a lunch counter that
didn't have a line waiting. MLB

No way. I won't go to a mall or any large department store from then
until Christmas and the consumer madness is over. From there on out,
when we go to the city for doctor/dentist appts., the only shopping we
do is Petsmart.
