Anyone recommend a good couple day vacation spot here in the US for a older
single white male. I am looking to get away for a couple days. I am
thinking a maybe take a drive to Key West. Any recommendations anyone

Matthew, I think a drive down to Key West is just the ticket. There
are a lot of tourists, but it's still a wonderfully relaxing place.
There's a lot to see, or you can just kick back and watch the world
go by. There are lots of kitties lying around and enjoying the
sunshine. And you can pay a visit to Ernest Hemingway's house and see
the gang of polydactyl kitties:

Drive to Key West, but don't worry too much about actually getting there.
Once you hit the keys, stop anyplace that seems interesting for as long as
it seems interesting.
I do love the drive to Key West, but it is a long drive, and about half way
back starts to get sort of boring.

willing to be gone for several weeks at a time? About 3 years after my
mother died my father learned about a program called "Gentlemen Hosts". that
several cruise lines utilize. These cruise lines recognize that older women
travel alone on cruise ships. They offer older men an opportunity to take a
cruise while entertaining these older women. Purely platonic relationships.
If you're caught in a relationship with someone you are put off the ship at
the next port and have to find your own way home. Primarily the gentleman
is there to dance with the women. My father loved dancing with my mother so
he took ballroom dancing courses at the local university and after about a
year he was able to pass the test and given an opportunity to join the
program. I'll warn you, it is expensive because they have a list of clothes
you are expected to have: a white dinner jacket, a tux, several dress shirts
and slacks, etc. He took three cruises. The first was on the Queen Elizabeth.
He was given an all expense paid trip to London, transport to Southampton
and sailed from Southampton to Italy, Spain, Barcelona, etc. His first was a
4 week trip. The second was the Queen Mary and sailed in north Europe.
Lastly he took a cruise on a Mississippi river boat, that was a two week
cruise.
Not your typical vacation but he enjoyed it. Accommodations aren't grand
and you share a room but other than that you can enjoy the other amenities
on the ship. He was 76 when he did this.
Just an idea

That sounds like a lot of fun....all the fun of a cruise, without the messy
emotional stuff, good friends and free into the bargain!!
