CatNipped...
Just curious, from a military point of view, what is the difference between
tactical and strategic (the dictionary doesn't really give a distinction and
I'm reading a novel with combat scenes that would be clearer if I knew the
answer to this).

Mark Edwards...
I've always heard that Strategic is what you plan to do, and Tactical
is how you implement those plans.

CatNipped...
OK, that makes sense, thanks!

Dan M...
And on a battlefield planning level, strategic planning involves
theatre-wide issues while tactical planning involves battle- or
location-specific issues.

Enfilade...
That's about it. Strategic is long-term, long-range. Tactical is how
to deal with the problem that's right ahead of you right now.

So, my strategic goal is to clean the kitchen, my immediate tactical
goal is to wipe the walls and counters. Tomorrow's tactical goal is to
scrub the floor, and then....we INVADE THE REFRIGERATOR, and gain
control of freezer space from the mold n' mildew army!!

TO realize immediate strategic goal, I need a J-cloth and some soap. To
realize long term strategic goal, I need to manage my time (and
motivation) to make sure I do everything before giving up.

Enfilade...
Er, this should read, To realize immediate TACTICAL goal, I need a
j-cloth and some soap. ANd some caffeine.

CatNipped...
OK, now you're talking my language! ;>

Thanks Dan and Fil!

Tish Silberbauer...
And my new strategic goal is to get you over to my place to do the
same! And, like the most common strategies (and most of my
housework), it completely lacks any immediate tactical implementation.

If you want your house to look like mine, I can come over and give you
a spotless shining counter, and 4 other rooms of complete chaos.

I've spent the week working (job) and working (thesis) and working
(out) and not much working (house).

Hugs and Purrs,
Mark
