Microchip lets officials return cat that was missing 10 years

This is sweet, but at the same time, very sad. 10 years is a significant
portion of a cat's life! Unless he was very young when he disappeared,
he'll be quite old now. I would be sad that I'd missed out on all those
years together.

Sorry to be negative. Maybe it's my mood today. The people sound like
they're pretty happy about it.

It wouldn't surprise me that he was adopted for ten years and maybe got out,
it's possible another slave is now missing him. :-(

My thoughts, as well - cat got out from original home, someone else "found'
him and kept him, never had him scanned for microchip, moved (with cat) to
Sacramento. Cat escapes from home in Sacramento, is picked up by ACC,
scanned and his Seattle owners name comes up on the microchip's info.

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Sneakers the cat is being reunited with his owner, 10
years and hundreds of miles away from where he disappeared in 1996.
The long-haired black cat was given to Sacramento's Animal Care Services
last week, where an employee scanned him for a microchip, a routine
procedure.
The number on the chip was used to track down Allison MacEwan of Seattle,
who said she placed newspaper ads and went door-to-door with fliers in a
futile search for her lost cat a decade ago.
Officials on Wednesday said they aren't sure how the cat wound up in
Sacramento.
MacEwan's daughter was 4 years old when her cat disappeared, and officials
said she is now looking forward to being reunited with her childhood pet.
Sacramento is about 750 miles south of Seattle.

I will be he was catnapped.

I had a cat catnapped when I was a pre-teen. We found him about 8 or 9
years later.

Wow. I'd love to hear that story, if you're up for telling it. How'd
you get him back?

How cool is this?! I microchipped Persia after she ran out the door a month
after she acquired me. The first thing the vet did when I took her in for a
check up and shots was scan her for a microchip. Who could have let this
gorgeous cat run loose? But whoever it was didn't chip her. I did. I also
have a collar tag on her and it states she's been chipped.
