CatNipped...
*VERY* good popcorn movie. Don't expect plot or deep story lines, it's more
like a roller coaster ride - it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Great special effects! B+

Christine K....
Will be released in over here on 28 June.

Tanada...
I dunno. The original movie was hard for me, as I'd read the book by
Paul Gallico (who also wrote "The Silent Meow") which was the basis for
the movie. I felt that the movie was a let down. But then I have
always loved every book of Gallico's that I've ever read.

Jeanne Hedge...
I think it was on the director's commentary on the new "The Poseidon
Adventure" DVD set where they talk about how the original movie
doesn't have much in common with the book. I guess they talked to
Gallico about it when Irwin Allen bought the rights, and then when the
movie finally came out years later Gallico liked it.

I don't know if Ian Fleming was alive when they got around to making
the movie version of "The Spy Who Loved Me", but the only thing in
common between that book and the movie is the title. At Fleming's
request.

Adrian A...
I'll look out for it, it's not due for release in thr UK until June 2nd.

Jeanne Hedge...
I was talking to some folks who saw this re-do, and they said that
while it's better than the TV movie version from last year, it's not
nearly as good as the original. YMMV I guess.

sriddles...
Oh, I want to see that movie. I remember seeing the original one on a
band trip when I was a kid.
It's really funny--that old movie has a cult following. I saw a program
about it not long ago. They have "Posieden" conventions, even, like
"Star Trek" conventions. One guy had even custom-made the whole cast
into action figures.
Is it a whole lot like the original?
If you go thinking you'll be seeing a remake of "The Poseiden Adventure" you
*will* be disappointed. I've been seeing all the promotions about the movie
by the actors on the daytime talk show circuit. They make it clear that the
two pictures are nothing alike. From what they said I went to the movie
expecting a "wild ride" popcorn/summer movie and it delivered that in
spades!

btw - I bought the original on special edition 2 disk DVD set
(price=what you'd normally pay for a normal DVD) the other day. There
is quite a bit in the way of special features (including the entire
episode of AMC's "Backstory" devoted to it). There is this option you
can turn on flashes a symbol on the screen at certain points - you
push a key on your remote, and it branches and shows you where the
people have been in relation to a map of the Queen Mary (the model for
the Poseidon). There are 2 commentary tracks. One is fairly standard,
by the director (Ronald Neame?). The other one, which is fun, is with
Stella Stevens, Carol Lynley, and Pamela Sue Martin. They sound like
they had a good time when they recorded it.

jmcquown...
Isn't this just a remake of the Irwin Allan classic, The Poseiden Adventure?
Not that there's anything wrong with that but I sometimes have to wonder
about remakes.

EvelynVogtGamble(Divamanque)...
Is this ANOTHER movie or a re-release of the one that came
out not too many years ago?

CatNipped...
It's *VERY* loosely based on the old "The Poseiden Adventure" - it has a
*LOT* less plot and storyline. About the only thing that's the same is that
the ship turns over. In the original it's like half an hour into the movie
before the ship turns over - in this one it's about 5 or 10 minutes into the
movie.

Jeanne Hedge...
The movie you say came out "not too many years ago" came out in 1972!

Karen AKA Kajikit...
That's funny... I was going to say I was a little kid when it was on
because I remember watching it on tv when I was in primary school, but
I was a babe in arms!

SuzQ...
Well, if you were a baby when it came out in theaters, then you might
well have been in primary school when it reached TV.

I was 15 in 1972, when the _Poseidon Adventure_ was made. I remember
reading the book before seeing the movie, and feeling that the book
was better.

How time flies! (But just you wait - the time will come
when you, too, will refer to something that happened "a few
years ago", only to be reminded by the people you mention it
to that they weren't even BORN then!) :-(
