glsummer...
Last week, I had a CT scan of my abdomen; they were thinking I may
have gallstones.

They did the scan of my entire abdominal area, including pelvis.

I have an ovarian cyst. And I am scared.

Exocat...
Purrs that it reabsorbs & there's nothing at all to worry about soon

Gordon + the FF

Monique Y. Mudama...
I can't blame you for being scared. I have no experience with this,
so all I can offer is purrs.

Anybody here have experience with this?

Christina Websell...
Yes, I do. I had surgery last year. I will help you all I can if you want.

Pamela Shirk...
I had cysts on both ovaries when they did my hysterectomy. I was 31 and
terrified, But they were benign and I have done well enough without them.
I wouldn't have experience with just the ovaries benign taken out, but other
than being sore for a while, I had no real problems with the hysterectomy.
There was that night I kept poor Rob awake all night giggling something
about cheerleaders....

Pam S. who was never a cheerleader, so can't figure out why she found them
so funny

Marina...
No experience, but loads of purrs coming your way!

EvelynVogtGamble(Divamanque)...
Back before the days of CT scans and ultra-sound, I had a
tubo-ovarian cyst that announced itself with internal
bleeding (pain in the right side and right shoulder and a
couple of almost-fainting spells which I ignored - until my
next "period" started early and refused to stop). It
required surgery, of course (they took the left tube and
ovary, but "preserved my fertility" by leaving the rest - I
never had children, but COULD have done). Despite all the
trouble it caused, the cyst was "benign". I was in my
twenties at the time, and have reached 75 with no further
problems of that sort. Things like that are always scary,
but need not be as serious as we fear, and are probably more
easily treatable now than back in the 1950's.
Best wishes for a fast, easy solution - Melisande and
Cendrillon send mega-purrs

I have polycystic ovary syndrome. Most women at one time or another
get ovarian cysts. Most resolve on their own - some need surgery.
If you are prone to them you might want to be on birth control pills
when/if you are not actively trying to conceive. usually they will
tell you to "just wait and see" how it resolves - if you have more or
severe pain or cramping, call your doctor.

I would be more concerned about the gall stones. I had one and didn't
even know it until I was sent to the ER with bile duct obstruction -
which was incredibly painful (8-9/10 on the pain scale for most people,
I am told). I would get that puppy yanked if you can afford to have
the surgery. They do it laparoscopically and the recovery is 4-6
weeks.

Ginger-lyn
off to find a referral to a gynecologist

Kreisleriana...
No, sorry. But we got plenty of purrs around here.

Jeanette...
Yes, I had gallstones AND an ovarian cyst at the same time (the two
conditions are unrelated).

Some cysts are quite small and go away by themselves, some need to be
removed. Mine was four inches in diameter when they found it, and six inches
by the time they removed it, it was non-malignant, but had pretty much taken
over the entire ovary, so my left ovary and fallopian tube were removed
along with the cyst. I have a big scar, but I was never going to model
bikinis anyway so it's no great worry. It was classed as major surgery, and
I couldn't sit up for a couple of days, or drive for six weeks. I've made a
full recovery now. Get thee to a gynecologist and find out if it's going to
go away, or if it needs taking out.

Yoj...
If it is actually a cyst, you should be just fine. A cyst is harmless.
While I haven't had an ovaraian cyst, I've had several of them in m breasts,
beginning when I was 14. I've had two biopsies, two or three needle
biopsies and umpteen ultrasounds. Many cysts disappear on their own. Some
need to be removed, either for testing or because they're causing
discomfort.

Yes, find a good gynecologist. S/he may be able to tell you there is
nothing to worry about, or they may decide on further tests, which may prove
nothing is wrong.

Purrs for it all to be as I have described, and purrs for your fear to ease
until you have a definitive word from a doctor you trust.

Karen AKA Kajikit...
Nine times out of ten, an ovarian cyst is nothing to worry about -
most of them form when your ovary starts making an egg but for some
reason the egg isn't released so the egg folicle keeps on growing...
I've never had one, but I know all about them from the PCOS groups.
Cysts often tend to resolve on their own in a month or two, or they
can be treated laproscopically.

Takayuki...
I have some friends who have had cysts, and it seems to have been a
medical inconvenience on the level of appendicitis to most of them.
So purrs, and don't be too scared!

Victor Martinez...
No experience, but sending you lots and lots of healing purrs.

Sam...
No experience here, but purrs for you are on the way. Let's start with
anti-worry purrs and we'll go from there if necessary.

John F. Eldredge...
While I don't have any first-hand experience with ovarian cysts, my
mother had several which were successfully removed. All were benign.

I did have the experience, back in 1989, of having a testicular cyst
removed. It was very scary finding a lump that was getting noticably
larger from one day to the next, and having it diagnosed as
non-malignant was a relief. Actually having it removed was an even
larger relief, as the internal pressure had built up to painful
levels.
