My sister sent me this. There were pictures attached but I had to
delete them. It did look good. The omelet came out rolled up like a
burrito.

ZIPLOC OMELET

(This works great !!! Good for when all your family is together, OR FOR
A SINGLE PERSON. The best part is that no one has to wait for their
special omelet !!!) Have guests write their name on a quart-size
Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.

Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2)
shake to combine them.

Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green
pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.

Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake.
Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes.

You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another
pot of boiling water. Open the bags and the omelet will roll out
easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed. Nice to serve with
fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and
a great conversation piece.

Good point. I did some searching, didn't find much out. Definitely
need to use the freezer bags. Someone else suggested Foodsaver bags,
since they can be boiled.

I was wondering that myself - my mother sent me that email, too. Guess
it must be making the rounds. It looks like a good idea, but I wouldn't
want plastic from the ziploc leaching into the omelet.

When I was growing up we had frozen veggies that you cooked right in
the plastic pouch (with sauces, etc inside), but who knows how safe
that was!

Probably wouldn't be anymore harmful than any other way we heat / cook
foods - in plastic dishes in the microwave, etc.

And actually, that's not so great, either. The soft plastic of
containers such as Tupperware is just the kind that would leach
plastic into the food. There is supposed to be some type of hard
plastic that doesn't do this, but I don't remember what it's called.
Does anyone know about this? If I go into Target (department store)
or someplace like that and ask an employee about it, they all say,
"Oh, this is safe. See? It says 'microwave safe' right on it." Um,
yeah, thanks. That just means that the microwave won't *melt* it.

What I'd really love to find is food storage containers made of
glass, with rubber (or plastic) covers. I bring lunch to work in
a cooler, so I need the cover - a regular glass bowl wouldn't be
any good. Then I'd feel pretty safe about putting it into the
microwave at work! But the only ones I've found so far are either
really small - much smaller than a lunch portion would fit in,
or really big - too big for the cooler! Sheesh.

Have you checked out Glad Cling wrap? It really is great. We store a lot
more in the refrigerator now at least short term just in the container it
was cooked/served in. Just overwrap it with cling wrap. One less thing to
wash and stuff gets to the refrigerator faster than it would it we played
container hide and seek.

Do you think it would hold if I placed the bowl (w/Glad Cling) into the
cooler to take to work? I would hate to open up the cooler to discover
that my lunch is all over the inside!

Jo Firey...
Try it on something else before you try it with the cooler, so you can get
comfortable with how well it works. It be a little extra thorough with
something in a cooler that may well tip over.

jXwXeXrXmXoXnXt...
Exactly. That's why I was hoping to find glass storage bowls, that
come with covers. Less waste that way, too, since I wouldn't be
throwing out Glad wrap every day. But right now I use plastic
containers to bring my stuff to work in, so I'm microwaving in
plastic. Throwing out the Glad wrap is probably better than eating
food spiced with Eau de Tupperware.

Corelle makes plastic covers for their bowls.

I would try this while camping.
