Molly Really Suprised Me

Jo Firey...
I thought I decided a long time ago not to ever be too surprised by any cats
behavior. I know that especially as a species and even as individuals they
are contradictory. But Molly did something this afternoon that really took
me (and Riley) by surprise.

Molly is our about three year old dainty calico girl. Who was feral and
raised a litter of kittens in her former life. A very independent miss who
has sat on my lap maybe twice on her own. Who sneaks in and sleeps on my
feet at night, but mostly pretends not to want or welcome much in the way of
affection. Signs of the momma cat she was come out once in a while when she
bathes Jake or Kayla or bosses them around.

Now one of Kayla's many good features for a d#g creature is that she almost
never barks. My previous dogs barked their fool heads off and when we got
Kayla, I asked the breeder for advice in preventing her from barking. She
informed me "my dogs don't bark". She was right.

Not so the neighbor's dogs. The ones south of us bark a lot. As in its
probably a good thing I'm deaf. They are especially bad when they are left
alone for a few days with just someone to come in with food and water.
Riley, Kayla's BC playmate on the other side. doesn't bark a lot. But he
does bark when I'm outside playing with Kayla. He has his own little hole
in the fence where he watches her and sometimes leaves her toys.

This afternoon, I was out throwing the tennis ball for Kayla. And Riley had
his nose through the fence barking. Molly was with us on the porch, and I
guess the noise was getting on her nerves. Maybe the lack of discipline.
So she walked over to the fence. To Riley. And smacked him across the
nose. Claws out. Couldn't have said "shut up" better if she could talk.

Our neighbours have a little dog (looking like a Yorkshire Terrier,
about 4kg, half of it fur - my estimate). When he/she is in the garden
and we come home he/she runs towards the fence and starts a rapid-fire
high-pitched barking at us.

Blacky and Merlin are ignoring him/her, but sometimes I wish one of
them would go up to the fence and tell him/her to "shut up" as your
Molly did.

Squarely Yours
Michael

OWNED.

PWND!!1!

however you spell it, that's what it is.

I was astonished. Riley was really astonished. But he did shut up.

Then she walked to the gate and asked to be let out. Usually she either
jumps the fence or goes through one on the many cat sized holes to the front
yard. But she seemed to think she had earned gate service.

Cute story, Jo.
