I went shopping this morning and bought a nice sturdy wooden hutch, and
then went and picked Gertie up.
The cats are FASCINATED. Lily thinks Gertie is the best thing *ever* and
has taken up residence on top of the hutch - she's watching her intently
incase she tries to steal the silver, because after all, *everyone* know
the reputation of those dastardly ferrets.... ;o)

MISS LILY WHISKERS! DON'T FORGET ME! I'SE YOUR WINKWINK FRIEND AND AM
FAR BETTER THAN ANY OLD FERRET GIRL, EVEN IF MY TAIL IS SORE RIGHT NOW.
GRANDMEOW IS PLEASED THAT YOU HAVE A NEW PLAYMATE, BUT I DON'T WANNA
LOSE YOU TO DA FERRET. CAN I COME OVER TO SEE IT AND CAN WE STILL BE
BUDDIES?

QUI GUN KIT, Yoo is my one-troo-hero, and my only winkwink friend. Yoo
can come over an see the ferret when ever yoos wants too, as long as I
have lots of nosey kisses!
I'm Your one-troo-luv.

Congrats on your new family Gertie, and may all of you have many years
of fun and love together.

The older cats were initally curious, but then put it down to "one of
moms odd things" and went back to their normal lives and pretty much
ignore her.

Oooo, that's lucky. Hope they don't turn vicious when Gertie wants to

I just don't see this happening. I've known several mixed-species
households involving ferrets, and in all cases the ferrets pwned (okay,
okay, ruled) the rest. There's just something about a ferret dangling
by its jaws from your lip to give pause to even the most ardent
antagonist.
Ferrets are *not* helpless or prey in any sense, although of course
it's a good idea to keep a close eye on all the furkids while they're
integrating.

chase them to play.
And you might want to research to see if there's any part of your home
you want to 'ferret proof'

Hehehe. Um, good luck with that =)

Gertie is actually about 12 months old, but is an exceptionally small
Jill. She's back to the vet for a shot to bring her out of season on
Monday, and then she'll be vaccinated.
Jpegs to follow in due course...

What's all this? You have a ferret now? is she staying or are you
fostering?
I almost bought a ferret once. They had her running around in the pet
shop where I went to buy cat food, and I held her and she snuggled up to
me and she was so cute. But then I thought the better of it, because of
Nikki's avid hunting instinct. of course they said ferrets get along
great with cats, but I could never have been sure with Nikki.
