Golly gee, don't often start such a reply chain:) I guess I misspoke;
I wasn't considering barn or feral cats. Maybe indoor vs
indoor-outdoor is what I meant.
Bert(asks to go) goes out when I get up - back in an hour or less, so
I assume it's a relief trip. Asks again early PM, and stays out 2-3
hrs, Usually asks again maybe 5-6 and comes home maybe 7-8,

That would be my definition of the term, yes.

occsionally later. Eve permission varies with season (daylight); in
Boston October still EDT he won't (hardly ever:) get out after dark
(tho I don't worry), and with EST it'll be earlier. Does this make him
indoor-outdoor?
Bert's all black, so he never gets out on Halloween. Any comments?

Yeah, later this afternoon I realized that's what you meant by
indoor/outdoor statistics.. I think the only way we can get an accurate
number is to create a consensus from the vet clinics and that would only
include the cats that are under routine care and don't swap vets. I know our
former vet still considers us as patients but I have no intention of
returning.

About keeping him in on Halloween? Definitely! I wouldn't let any cat
out, no matter what color. Too many teenagers out to play pranks or do
something even more destructive. And often under the cover of a costume,
so they figure they can get away with it.

While there's very little evidence of the existence of organized
Satanic groups requiring all black cats for sacrificial purposes,
there's plenty of evidence of random sickos, occult dabblers and cruel
pranksters harming animals of all types. I would not let ANY animal
out on Halloween.
