Ann...
I was working in my garden near the bird feeder. I always have birds on them
ground picking up the spilled seeds. There were a few finches on the ground
and one went into the flowers. As I started to work I didn't see the bird
and thought I flew off and I just didn't see it. As I stepping into to the
flower bed to reach the back I felt something brush against my leg. It was
the bird. It flew low to the ground and landed in a small holly tree in my
yard. I stood there for about 5 minutes watching the bird. It looks like a
young bird learning to fly.

Julie Cook...
I wish I had more time right now to spend with you guys but I am
checking in regularly and sending purrs and lighting candles and crying
and laughing with you guys. Unfortunately the battery on my camera died
about the time I was going to download the picture of Annie, Jim and
myself. We're on the way to Wisconsin tomorrow so I don't know if I'll
have time to find the battery charger (it is lost somewhere in the
baggage from two trip ago!) but I'll post the pictures soon. Annie and
Jim were so much fun and I felt like I was visiting with lifelong
friends. Pam, make sure you have lots of time to visit with them when
they make to your neck of the woods. Unfortunately we only had an hour
which was not nearly enough!

Tanada...
I'll try to spend as much of they day as Annie and Jim will let us, if
we have the chance to get there. I haven't heard from Annie yet.
Tomorrow, today really, is Rob's 44th purrday. He doesn't look a minute
over 44.3 I was hoping that we'd get to meet Annie and Jim as a sort of
Purrday present for Rob. He misses the Helicopter crew club.

Marina...
Hoppy Purrday to Rob!

polonca12000...
Please tell Rob we are purring for him, wishing him a very happy purr-day!
Hugs,
Polonca and Soncek

Sam...
Happy purr-day to Rob!

Speaking of baby birds learning to fly...someone sent me this url which
is a nestcam of bald eagles on an island in Vancover. I've been using
it as my screen saver whenever I'm away from my desk or not using my
computer. The eaglets are expected to fledge in the next week I
believe. Check it out if you have a minute...it is soooo cool!

hugs, purrs, gentle headbutts and lots of love to everyone,
Julie

Jo Firey...
That's always fun to watch. It only takes them a few hours. I swear the
ones that don't fly right from the nest are the ones who are just too well
fed. A couple of hours on the ground (or low branches, etc) thins them

'tis the season for fledglings. Sometimes we think they can't fly but they
really can do more than we think they can unless it's way too early. It's
not early, at least not in the southern part of the U.S.

I remember when my ex-fiance was on my balcony at my old apartment and he
said to me, "Look at that bird down there fighting with the other birds!" I
looked and laughed and said, "He's not fighting, he's a baby! He's
fluttering his wings to get mom & pop's attention so they will feed him."
Mr. I-grew-up-in-the-country didn't recognize a fledgling who wasn't ready
to let go yet. LOL Mom & pop flew off and the bird fed itself perfectly
well without their help.

down pretty fast.
