As some of you may know I'm far from wealthy and thus am always looking to
economize wherever possible.
Gasoline here has dropped in the past few weeks from $2.89 to $2.15 per
gallon, and I've heard predictions that it will go lower still over the next
month or two. I haven't bought gasoline since late May, but if I had filled
my car after seeing the price go down 20 cents within a few days, thinking
it would not drop further, it would have cost me about $6 and that would
have hurt.
Soon I'll need to start the furnace and fill my propane tank. My current
supply would last another month or so, but I am thinking ahead and hoping to
avoid any needless extra expense. A poor guess at what propane will do in
the short-term will cost me a lot more than $6 (due to the size of the
tank), even if it varies by a nickel a gallon.
Propane typically increases after Labor Day (currently it's $1.64; a month
ago it was $1.54), but that is not set in stone, and if it is somehow tied
to the price of crude oil (as so many things seem to be), propane should go
down in the near future.
So I'm asking anyone here who may know more about this issue, what do you
think is the best course of action: (a) fill the propane tank now, or (b)
wait a while, and how long.
Thanks in advance....

IIRC the price of propane used to vary according to supply/demand. It
was always higher in the winter. But this was a long time ago when we
used propane for heating. What did the price do last fall? Did it go up
when cold weather arrived?
