An 87-year-old man was asked to prove he was over 21 when he tried to buy a
bottle of sherry in a York supermarket.

And here was was flattered when the guy at the liquor store last year asked
me to prove I'm in (rapidly) approaching 50 ;)

The one that is depressing is the first time you get a senior discount
without asking for it.

Hey, I'll take it! When John and I travel I often book our hotels using the
50+ thing (he's 60) and why not? One trip we were on, we stopped at a
liquor store to stock up for the upcoming 700 mile drive and I said,
somewhat shyly, "Hon, why don't you ask if you can get a senior discount?"
Heh, saved him $20. Why not take advantage of it?
As the old hair dye commercials say, I'm not getting older, I'm getting
better :)

The discount is great. Its the assumption that stings the first time.
Cheeky twenty year old kids.

Worse is getting the senior discount when you're not old enough yet.
I didn't think I looked that bad.

How old was the cashier? To many teens, "old" is purely
relative - anyone past highschool qualifies!
