(kudos to me! LOL) Now I just have to convince my dad it doesn't mean
"instant job". In fact, yes, I passed the exam but no, I am not yet

licensed. All the appropriate paperwork plus money for the State had to be
taken with me to the testing center. *They* will submit the paperwork to
the State. I don't get my license until the State processes the stuff and
sends it to me in the mail. And even then, it's not a job guarantee. I'm
pretty sure he doesn't understand that. Oh well.

Good for you! I think the fact that you didn't want to take the exam in the
first place makes your passing it all the more impressive! It's too bad
your Dad can't get off your case and accept you as you are.

OB Cats: On the way home I noticed a big sign in Shelby Farms - "Future
Home of the New Shelby County Humane Society". Oh great, only three miles
from my home there will soon be a shelter filled with dogs and cats needing

Congratulations!! Well done. I hate exams.
No, it's not a job guarantee, but it could be a pathway to one, couldn't it?
You do need a job, Jill, really you do. Imagine that salary coming in every
month ;-)
You've got used to being at home, haven't you and like it? Yes, I liked it
at home when I was ill, too. Forget that.
This is my advice - okay you didn't ask for it but I'm going to give it to
you anyway :-))
It is easier to get a job that you want when you are already in one. Some
employers don't consider people that are already out of work. So find a job
soon with your new qualifications, OK so it may not be the job of your
dreams, and then look for another if you don't like it, *while you are
employed.*
I am rooting for you to succeed. I know you can get a job and have a salary
coming in again, Jill. You can, really you can.
Go out and do it, girl!
Lots of luck

Thank you! I do know all that. It wasn't my choice to be let go by my
former employer :) By the way, the instructor for the classes I took for
this exam used to work for my former employer back when I started with them
in 1993 but in a different division. He told me he'd heard they'd recently
sold off their claims processing section but he couldn't remember which
company bought it. That would have impacted over 1500 employees nationwide;
I sure hope they got to keep their jobs. It's not just I.T. staff being
outsourced, these days. (sigh) And older people are still being pushed out
in favour of younger folks who don't require as high a salary or as many
benefits.

adoption! Okay, this is a good thing since the shelters are usually filled
to capacity, especially after taking in animals in the aftermath of
Hurricane Katrina. But it's not good for me if I get bored one day and
decide to go look at the animals! Purrs to keep me away from there except
to give donations of pet food & supplies! :)

Congratulations, Jill, I knew you'd pass.

Congratualtions, Jill!
And just don't take your checkbook or credit card with you when you go
to visit the shelter ;-)

Luckily I don't know when the shelter will be completed. Right now it's
just a sign and a cleared bit of land. No construction has begun yet.
Might be next year before they are operational. The only thing I plan to
do, as I can, is donate food and cat litter. The weird thing is I asked a
couple of years ago at another location about donating some unopened bags of
dry food Persia could no longer eat. I was told they only accepted certain
brands/types. I don't understand being picky about free food. I know some
cat foods are better than others, don't get me wrong. But if it's a GIFT
and the cats have been starving... huh?

You can always volunteer to groom cats. Most HSs will allow you to
come and go as you please as a groomer, and spend as little or much
time as you have. You do have to go through initial training, though.

That's the beauty of being a professional volunteer :-)
We even have ladies who volunteer strictly to "socialize." Translation:
They come in for an hour or two and pet & play with kitties. What a
job!

I intend to voluteer once this new shelter is built. It's close to home and
I could surely help with the dogs/cats there.

I also know Persia does *not* want another! Plus integrating another with
both her and my lovebird, Peaches... yikes! Not if I'm about to go back to
work!
