Dan M...
Nancy was just leaving the house for work and saw Mr. Scruffy lieing by
the side of the road - looks like he had been hit by a car. She's rushing
him to the vet around the corner now.

Marina...
Oh, poor Mr Scruffles. Lots of purrs on the way for him.

jXwXeXrXmXoXnXt...
Oh, no - that poor cat!! :( He's had such a hard life, and now this.

Purrs for him to pull through.

Adrian A...
Mega purrs on the way for Mr. Scruffy.

Dan M...
Just heard from the landlord. Mr. Scruffles' injuries were too severe -
he left for the Bridge before he even arrived at the vet's. The vet
theorizes that he might actually have begun his journey before Nancy
even came out of the house this morning. His heartworm problem had
become worse, and he was most definitely feeling it.

Julie_Snowshoe...
{{Dan and Nancy}} I am so very sorry that you had to have this happen
to you. You gave Mr. Scruffy love and food and I'm sure he appreciated
having a peaceful place to get food. I will light a candle tonight and
he and Selena can cross the Bridge together.

Micha...
God bless you for all the good you did to Mr. Scruffy. And I hope the
Lord will send some insight to the landlord for better keeping his
pets in future.

Squarely Yours
Michael

This morning when I came out to feed the kitties, Mr. Scruffles was far
more interested in getting lovings than in eating. After I had been
petting him for a few minutes he started to work on his breakfast, but
very slowly. He really just wanted to be petted and told how cute he was.

On normal days, when I feed the outdoor kitties Ranger sits in the
living room window and watches. This morning, 5 of the 6 inside kitties
were sitting in the living room window, staring. They were watching
very, very intently, with wide open eyes. I have NEVER seen them do that
before. I suspect that Scruffles had decided that today was his time,
and that my kitties could tell.

Marina...
Maybe it really was his time to go. Purrs for all who remain and miss him.

I just got through speaking with the landlord. He didn't know how to
take care of a cat, but he was pretty attached to him anyway. I take
comfort in knowing that Scruffles got three consecutive tummy-filling
meals and plenty of petting and loving in his last day or so.

Mr. Scruffles, may your journey to the Rainbow Bridge be a peaceful one.

Monique Y. Mudama...
Purrs for Mr. Scruffles.

We'll miss you.

Victor Martinez...
I'm sure the rpca gang is showing him around the RB right now.

Shiral...
Poor little guy! I hope he pulls through. Purrs on the way from my
girls and me. Mr. Scruffy's lucky in one respect, though--he's found
new friends in you and Nancy who care enough to help him when he needs
it.

Kreisleriana...
Oh lord. Emergency purrs for the poor thing on the way.

Theresa

All the best wishes for him becoming well again.

Christina Websell...
Oh, no. Just when his luck was changing. Lots of purrs from over the pond
coming up. Keep us updated.

Cheryl...
Oh, Dan! I was just reading about Mr Scruffles and I hope he'll be

The Polish-Kraut...
God bless you for making his last days here more bearable for him and
for showing him love and attention.

Hopefully if his owner gets another cat there will be someone like you
there to educate them on the proper way to care for and feed a cat.

I'm really sorry to hear this :(

Sam...

Adrian A...
How very sad. Purrs for all who cared for Mr. Scruffles, I will light a
candle for him.

ok.

jbhajos...
Emergency purrs on the way just as fast as they can get there.
Fingers crossed.

Dan M...
We still don't know the prognosis. At the vet now. Here's what we have
learned:

Mr Scruffles is very old. He has been living with our landlord for 15
years. He was diagnosed a couple years ago with heartworms (which can be
prevented, but not treated once acquired). The reason he's been getting so
skinny is that when the landlord puts out food (outside), other
neighborhood cats push him away from his food. I know, he should be
feeding him indoors and protecting him from the other cats. That's why
he's been coming to our place - he can eat without being molested. He has
also been badly bothered by the hot weather lately. Unfortunately, he is
also given to sleeping under cars. We think that's what happened this
morning - he fell asleep under the van, Nancy didn't see him and backed
over him. The alternatives are that he got hit on the street and retreated
under the van, or that he went to sleep under the van and just didn't wake
up.

Anyhow, Nancy learned all this immediately after finding him. The landlord
happened to be walking past (how's that for timing?), and has taken Mr.
Scruffles to the vet. I'm hoping to get word soon, but it doesn't look
good for the old guy.

Enfilade...
Purrs for Scruffles. Poor old guy.

Victor Martinez...
Lots of emergency purrs on the way.

Cheryl...
Purrs for Nancy and you and the others. As time goes on I am more and
more intolerant of people who can't seem to be able to take care of
their animals.

The Polish-Kraut...
Prayers and purrs for him.

Another reason to keep him in, at least during feeding time. Sounds
to me like his owner does not really look after or worry about him.
Too bad he could not be taken in by someone who would care for and
love him !!!

Dan M...

mlbriggs...
Purring that Scruffy does not feel pain. If his passing time is at hand,
may it be a gentle passing. Purrrrrrrrr MLB

Kreisleriana...
Oh my heart. Purrs continuing.

Dan, I am so sorry. Please tell Nancy not to blame herself. All
kinds of things can happen, and you don't know exactlly what did.

Purrs for Mr. Scruffles on their way.
