finally got it to play. Man, that's a big cat. A really big cat. I
wonder how old he is? It's pretty wierd for a cat that has been out on
his own that long to keep all that weight on!
|
Marina...
|
Oh, I'm glad to hear that. Glad that he was neutered before release, too.
|
|
This woman who owns six cats is wondering why the food is disappearing
faster. She figured out another cat was sneaking in through the cat
flap into the the garage and chowing down on her cats' food. She
couldn't catch him, until....
Karen...
Sheesh!! Hope the fat boy finds a home.

expression. I'm glad to know he's back home without the non-essentials ;-)

"That's right.. that's right I'm fat!"

Urgh. Out of ALL the videos on that site, THIS is the one I can't play
now. RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH!

Here's another link -- of the Oregonian's coverage of the big kitty.
He really does look like a big lovey mush of a cat!! :-)

Yeah, did you notice that when the shelter person scratched him at the
base of his tail, he did that "biting the air" thing that a lot of cats
do? :)
Marina...
|
Yup. And in the opening shot, he was sleeping in the litter box. :oP He
has those gorgeous unneutered-tom cheeks that make him seem even bigger.
Jo Firey...
|
Fortunately now that he's got the cheeks, he will keep them. I've always
been a little reluctant and slow to get our tom cats neutered. I think
those jowls are adorable too. I seem to remember your nieces cats have
those boy cat faces too.

Sam was neutered at 'at least a year old, but still young' last summer,
and still has that broad tom-cat face and shoulders. I think it's a great
tough-cat look, although a bit misleading in Sam's case, as he's a real
softie.
It's funny how some people act as though all cats are female and all dogs
are male when it's so obvious that at least some cats are male. Oh, sure,
they can be mis-identified sometimes (my late Betsy was said to be a tom),
but a big boycat with a broad face and chest is so obviously male, it
sometimes seems unnecessary to check under the tail.

And then there a show on Animal Planet about a "miracle cat" who disappeared
for 8 years, and was then reunited with "his" owner. The narrator of the
story kept referring to the cat as "he" - but it was a calico! Of course,
this was just a dramatization, so the real cat might well have been a boy.
In which case, couldn't they at least have not used an obviously female
cat in the role? :)

Do calico males ever exist? A lot of people assume that all orange
tabby (ginger) cats are male, but my Annabel Lee was an orange tabby
female.

Coat colour in cats is a genetically complex. The short story is that
the colours in calico (and tortiseshell) are carried on the
x-chromosome and in order to get a calico or tortie coat pattern the
cat must have two x-chromosomes. In the vast majority of cases, such
cats are female (remembering that in most mammals XX = female and XY =
male). There is a very rare genetic condition called Kleinfelter's
syndrome where the individual is XXY. Such individuals are considered
male, but are generally sterile. A cat with Kleinfelter's syndrome
can, therefore, be a male tortie or calico.
More information on the syndrome can be found at wikipedia

My vet has one. That's the huge fat cat, Mr. Steve, that lays on the
front counter all the time.

My friend has 2 female orange cats.

Jo Firey...
|
I've never heard of a calico male, but we have several orange tabby girls on
the group. Hari Roadcat comes to mind. Someone else has a couple of them.
My next cat, if I get to choose and if there is a next cat will be a dilute
orange girl.

Boyfie has those lovely fat cheeks too. He seemed quite a young boy when he
arrived, maybe less than a year old. I got him snipped, but he still has
his lovely round face. My cousin saw him and said "Aww, he looks like the
Cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland."

Ernie has them - and he was snipped quite young (3~ months).... but he had
them *very*young... the cheeks, that is! The rest didn't pop in until we'd
had him a few weeks. TED asked if we'd heard a "pop" ing noise in the night
when they 'grew' in LOL. This is Ernie the second day we had him (about 4
weeks old), before his 'boy bits' popped out!
But Ernie is *big* all around - 16lb of big-boy! This is Ernie now, all
lightweight (5'5" and 160~#), so he's really done some growing. One of his
littermates, Moe, is only 9#! And I saw what must have been his poppa-cat
once in the yard: same off-kilter cap of grey and grey stripey tail, all the
rest white, and *huge*... I only saw him from the right, so I don't know if
he had any spots of grey tabby on the left side like Ernie or not. But
Since Bam-Bam has that same 'cap' and stripey tail, probably has the same
poppa-cat, as well as momma-cat (which we know is the same since we saw her
with both litters as bitties)!

Kasper does - he was put to stud at least once. My sister's cat, Linus,
was also neutered fairly late, and he has them too.

That was the cutest part. You and Tish and I discussed this
phenomenon a short while back, but I've never actually seen it in
person. Next time I see a chubby kitty, I'll have to scritch it to
see if this happens. :)
jXwXeXrXmXoXnXt...
|
I think it would work on a small cat, too. :)
Winnie...
|
Rusty is sitting on my lap as I read this. So I scratched the base of
his tail. Nothing!
At under 9 lb., he is far from a fat cat.

Did you notice the cute little kitty in the next cage?
Takayuki...
|
I thought that was an unusual opening shot. I thought the focus was
going to be on that small kitty. It was very cute.
|
|
|
He looks a lot cleaner in that video, too. In an earlier one, he had
all this weird yellowish stuff on him, maybe something from a garage
floor, or maybe the doggie door he got stuck in was painted yellow?
Outsider...
|
He looks more like a Garfield than a Goliath.

His real name is Herculies.

Why? Is it because he's so fat? I wish I could have him here where he
could chase mousies and ratties all day. He would soon reduce his weight.
He has a beautiful face. I love him. Send him here.

Takayuki...

Oooh, how plump and funny! But he can jump! The lady who caught him
is so funny too.

I hope he finds a great onetruehome!

Hope he finds a home *and* loses a few pounds. LOL.
