WAY OT: Just listen!

Do you ever actually listen to the music that accompanies movies you watch?
Heh, I've been doing this for years but it wasn't until the first Star Trek
film came out in 1979 that I popped to movie music - Jerry Goldsmith.
Later, John Williams.

Then I discovered the music of Bernard Hermann from years earlier, but the
tracks from the original Ghost & Mrs. Muir haunted me.

These days I listen to Thomas Newman (Meet Joe Black', The Road to
Perdition, The Cinderella Man and American Beauty)... He also did the
muscial soundtrack for what John's sort of step-nephew (that's a weird
situation) Peter Sondergaard did in the film 'Jarhead.'

Once upon a time I was only interested in rock & roll and some old classic
songs. I still love those. But when I watch a film I also actually listen
to the music; it's not just background noise. John Williams also did the
"oh my!" theme song from 'Jaws'.

James Horner took over where Jerry Goldsmith left off in the film version of
"Star Trek, the Wrath of Kahn". He also did the music to 'Braveheart' and

cybercat...

Get a job. FFS.

'Titanic' and these are amazing scores.

In every generation you can hear shades of older composers. I suppose that
is how one learns from the great ones. I love old and new film music. It
warms my heart.

Persia seems to like to sleep to it, since most of it is generally mild
strings and horns on a low tempo. But then again, she's not likely to jump
up and dance if they suddenly start to swing, which occasionally happens :)
