ESP with your pet?

dozing this morning, I remembered a game I'd play with Max as he was
lying under the covers with his feet on my chest. Without moving or
making any sound I'd think good thoughts about him, using his name
frequently, and like as not, he'd start purring or kneading me. No
matter how many cats you have there's always something special about
each one.

Heh. I am a really practical sort, and am the first one to poo-poo
certain things. But I won't discount ESP, or probably more accurately,
animal communication. I won't bore everyone with the whole story, but
I lost Yoda once -- I had a 100-acres to look for him -- and somehow, I
just felt compelled to look in one place, a really *unlikely* place --
and there he was. It still kind of disturbs me to think about it. It
was just too weird to be coincidental.

Wow, that's fascinating.

I think there's a whole world of extremely subtle micro-communications
that we are not at all concious of. But unconciously, we take note of
it all, and some of it ends up bubbling up to our conciousness, and we
call it ESP. Not sure it's an *extra* sense, though - I just think our
brains are capable of taking in so much more than what we are conciously
aware of.

Other animals have more access to that stuff because they don't have
the kind of brain filters we have, which cause us to miss all those
little details. So they catch on to the little micro-communications
that most humans miss.

That's my theory, anyway. I believe that almost everything we refer
to as "magic" or "supernatural" actually has a physical, real-world
explanation, but we just haven't discovered what it is yet. Partly
because our scientific knowledge base doesn't have enough information
to explain it, and partly because we haven't developed the technology
to observe it. But I strongly believe we will! Remember, people once
believed that colds and other diseases were caused by "spirits" entering
our bodies. And I guess they are, in a way - they're little beings we
can't see. But scientifically we can observe them as microbes, and I
think one day we'll be able to observe ESP and other phenomena as they
happen, and we'll learn what causes it. I'm just sorry I won't be around
to see it!

I like that theory. It helps me wrap my brain around the whole ESP
thing for sure. Fascinating stuff.

I don't know for sure, but Frank did seem to try a Vulcan mind meld with
me a few times - he lay down on the pillow next to mine and pressed his
forehead hard against mine, while purring so that I could feel it in my
teeth. ;o)

There are a lot of times I think about one of the girls and they show
up out of no where. Definitely mind reading.
