robert casey...
With Halloween coming up, best not to adopt out any black cats until
November. Some people may want a black cat as a Halloween party prop
and dump the cat later.

Christina Websell...
Thank you for this reminder. Fortunately, in England, this is not something
we have to worry about. We do not abuse black cats at Halloween.
There is no stigma attached to black cats here.

I used to support the month-long blackout but not anymore. I believe
that the black-cat problem is about 90% myth--at least here. And
refusal to adopt for an entire month isn't fair to the cats. Far too
many of them miss out on what would be a good home. It doesn't hurt to
err on the side of caution, and be extremely careful during October,
but I think a 1-week blackout is enough.
I very seriously doubt there's a satanic cult that collects black cats
at Halloween within 100 miles of here. The problem is the wanna-be
teenage thugs, and yes, the Halloween party people who want a black cat
as a party decoration. But I seriously doubt they are going to pay $70
to get a cat out of a shelter for that purpose. I think the strays and
roaming owned cats are at far greater risk.

Christina Websell...
There are people that would catnap a black cat off the street and use it in
some sort of Halloween ceramony,(sp, it looks wrong) ??
These are seriously sick people. I am glad I am not them because i would be
be ashamed of myself.

Jo Firey...
We adopted Molly (not a black cat) on October 30th. The shelters and
adoption centers we visited made it very clear that the "no black cats" rule
was mostly for show. And to give the an excuse to get rid of anyone that
seemed overly interested in black cats only as well as otherwise a bit off.

They made it very clear we were welcome to take home any cat we wished after
talking to us for just a few minutes. A few offered to waive the fees as
well.

Still we hunted all day for this little girl and waited for nearly an hour
for a delayed rescue worker to show up with the carload she was in. When
they are right they are right.

By that time Charlie was getting worried that I was going to reject every
cat and kitten on the planet.

The rescue workers were a little surprised that I keyed in on her
immediately, even ignoring her very cute kittens who were available at the
same time.
