For years I've listened to you folks talk about coffee, cheese,
chocolates, etc that are best from Trader Joe's. FINALLY, we are
getting not one but two Trader Joe's in the Atlanta metro area. I get
to taste what it's all about :)

They sell a lot of things besides coffee. Some things are really good; some
are so-so. Some are real bargains; others are really pricey. Of course
"good" is a very personal thing. You might not like what I think is good,
and vice versa. They're kind of fun to explore. The one near me sends out
a newsletter every so often. It is a combination of ads, cartoons and
snippets of trivia. I enjoy browsing through it.

Ah yes, the "Fearless Flyer", announcing some of their most
recent "new" items! Most of the things they carry are
special-purchase, so they don't have them all the time (or
in every store, now they've grown so large). But some of
the special purchases are hard to bid goodbye to - like a
wonderful herbed vodka ("karuna"?) they purchased from a
bankrupt distillery shortly after the Communist collapse in
Russia. It made the most fantastic martinis and gimlets!
But apparently it disappeared with the distiller - I've
looked in regular liquor stores and never encountered it.
(It might help if I were certain of the name, but I threw
away my last bottle before I realized there was no more to
be had.)

Don't forget to try their oatmeal-chocolate-chip mini-cookies.

Hurrah! (Although I understand not all of them, all over the
country, carry identical merchandise.) First thing I'll do,
once I get settled in my apartment in Arizona, will be to
find the nearest TJ's there. (I wonder if they'll ever do
mail order, or sell on the internet?)

It doesn't look like it, judging by their website. However, they will tell

Another thing I love about being in the Washington DC area. I'm
surrounded by them.
I'm particularly enamoured of their multi-grain sourdough bread. YUM.

I love TJ's! We haven't had one near us, had to drive all the way down the
grade to SLO, but we're getting one in Templeton by year's end! Yah!
