I am the fundraising event coordinator for the SPCA of Northern VA.
Several days ago I got an email from the District Manager of Borders
Books inviting us to a book signing by Rita Mae Brown. For those

Debra, first accolades to you for the job you do for the SPCA of Northern
VA. Any organization that helps animals need all the funding it can get.
Next, you luck thing you! Wow, getting to meet Rita Mae Brown. I agree
with another poster, it would have been great if Sneaky Pie were there.
I've read most all of theSneaky Pie books with Mrs. Murphy, Pewter and
Tucker, they are so well crafted and entertaining.
I hope to read other of Ms. Browns books. I will look for "Sour Puss."
Thanks for the advance notice.

who don't know of her, she is a prolific writer and animal lover.

I'm sorry, but that's also the name of the character Whoopi Goldberg
portrayed in the film 'Ghost'. When I hear that name I think of Whoopi
trying to remind herself to sign "Rita Mae, dat's my name, Rita Mae"" LOL

Nope - Whoopi's name in Ghost was *Oda* Mae Brown. Close, though!
Joyce - who's seen Ghost quite a few times.

Ghost was a poor copy of Truly, Madly, Deeply, as far as I'm concerned. I
wept and wept at TMD. All three times I've seen it/

Woops! Oda, dat's my name. It was a fun movie.

Oh, and I just remembered, that scene you quoted above, she was supposed
to sign the name "Rita Miller". It was "Rita Miller, dat's my name, my
name, my name is Rita Miller..." So that's where you got the Rita part! :)

That's it. You're right, Joyce.

I was thinking that same thing, Jill. Figures. :~)

She has written a series of mystery books with her tabby cat,
Sneaky Pie, as co-author. The smartest creatures in the books are
two cats and a dog who can solve the crimes way before the people
do.
The book signing was last night. Myself and 2 other SPCA volunteers
had a table next to the speaker's area with information about the group
and the animals we had up for adoption. Borders was great to us.
Rita Mae Brown's new book is called "Sour Puss" and she talked it
and her other work for a while, as well as answering questions.
She was very interesting to listen to and seems to have a great
sense of humor. Quite southern in her style, she told a lot of
stories ending with what her Mama would have to say about it...which
was usually pretty funny.
Borders donated 3 copies of her book, which she signed for us. We
chatted with her for a while after the signing, and also got to talk
with lots of her fans about our work.
It was a wonderful evening and I wanted to share it.

That is sooo cool! I love Ms Brown's books! It would have been 200% neater
if Sneaky Pie (aka Mrs. Murphy) had been there!

Thanks for sharing, I'm envious!
I haven't read Ms. Brown's books before - I'll have to remedy that.
