Puppy Training Advice, www.puppytrainingadvice.com...
Alot of people always ask about the usual PetsMart-type training
classes and if they are worth it. I would say NO. It is $100 for 8

Isn't it wonderful that everyone has access to other, better puppy
training classes!!
One would hate to think that the only choices were PetsMart or a book.

weeks, waste of time and money. I actually took my puppy to the
PetsMart classes back in the day. It wasnt a bad class but most of
training is done by the owners at home. This information can be found
all over the internet for free. Training books are good too. I have a

Oh no! Not *free*!! How *AWFUL*.

Better that they should spend $10 on a book so wretched that
its author can't find a publisher and can't find a
distributor, so he's reduced to hawking it in discussion

I agree with you, that Petsmart classes are overpriced and of poor value.
Most areas have local dog clubs where they offer training for less, with
more experienced trainers. Classes have more area to move in, (generally)
and more dogs, so there are distractions while learning, allowing you to
train/proof and socialize your dog at the same time.
I've trained dogs at home, but they just don't get that socialization,
and distraction that is needed to create a truly trained dog. ANY public
training is better than at home training.

When going to dog classes, many trainers watch you looking for details
that help you improve your training of dogs.

Books are good. I read lots of training books. But I would not restrict
my training to just at home dog education. Not even.
