keep you dog healty with a wash and groom. Also regularly brush your

That's a good idea. I'm not sure how likely I am to try to
bathe all seven Siberians, but it is a good idea.

Some of them are exceedingly pluckable. Slick produces
these perfectly formed little tufts that beg to be plucked.
Some of them have ticking, too, like his coat, and it makes
it even more attractive for plucking.

Mary Beth...
Rudy has these too, the 'tufties' as we call them.

He doesn't particularly let anyone 'pluck' him but loves for me to do it. If
anyone mentions 'tufties' he'll come over to me to sit properly for me to
pluck away. I love it!

Davina Stuart...
we've 2 poms, so shedding is a constant battle.. one of them, though, has a
skin condition due to allergies and probablly a few other things, we've had
her for 2 1/2 years (got her as an adult) and this is the first year she's
had a full coat (she was naked when we got her..) She started shedding early
this year (big surprise) so we just shaved her down. After the initial fur
pile, no more shedding from her :) (Unless i decide to trim her up a bit now
and then...)
She's got lots of outfits though (from when she didn't have any fur before)
so she stays penty warm (which is important up here in Alaska)
Might just go ahead and do that with the other one, too..... We keep them
trimed down a bit for summer anyway.....

Everybody of a veterinary persuasion I've talked to about
clipping says that it interferes with the dog's ability to
thermoregulate, so it's really not an option for us. I
figure it's just going to be vacuum vacuum vacuum vacuum
vacuum vacuum vacuum, and hope my mother understands. I'm
going to be 50 years old this summer but you're never too
old to stop worrying about what your mother thinks.

Michael A. Ball...
I tell people who want to "shave" their double coated dogs, that the dogs will still get
hot; so they will be hot *and* ugly, too!

I spend a lot of time with my two dogs, using a thin-tined undercoat rake. Its quality
time for us, but not everyone has that luxury.

Mary Beth...
If at all possible do this outside. The birds will thank you for it, as they
use the fur for nesting! :P

Davina Stuart...
I agree, and never would have considered shaving the down if it wasn't for
her skin condition and the fact that she'd been naked most of her life (from
what we were told when we took her in..)
this was taken shortly after we brought her home.
and this one on the car ride home from picking her up
we changed her diet and reduced stress as much as we could and she
eventually started getting fur back, but it would come and go. that first
winder, she went all puff ball

but quickly blew that entirely.
then her guard hairs all grew in, but no undercoat, and her skin went very
oily for a while

We're still working with her, but she still tends to blow everything if we
don't trim her down when she starts, and then we just have to cut through
all the mats that leaves her with, too...
but, she's too cute, with or without fur for it to be too much hassle...

I don't have much experience with a mother; so, that was an interesting thing you said
about their opinions always mattering. That's the way it probably should be, for everyone,
but it isn't. :-(

A dog's life is too short; their only fault really.

Might be hard to do that with 7 Siberians too though....
