I just came home from taking my son to get his first drivers license, when
we pull into the driveway I see (note there is still snow on the ground) a
wide open door.
no dogs in sight, and the furnace going a thousand miles an hour.
My heart went to my knees. all four dogs...
Asleep on my bed.I don't know who I am prouder of, my son for acing the
test, or my dogs for staying inside.
'seems my older son forgot to shut the door on his way to work! jeeze

I think that means the dogs are happy to be in the house and being a part
of your family. One time I looked outside where I had tied Muttley to his
shelly...

Do you, now? My dog wouldn't step foot outside her house without
someone accompanying her. Part of that is training. She knows that
she's not to follow me out the door unless she's told to. If I
weren't home, though, she still would be *very* unlikely to go
outside on her own, and I can guarantee you it's not because of any
nonsense about how happy she is to be part of my family. It's
because she's a nutcase and won't go outside her comfort zone unless
I'm there to hold her paw.

tether, and it was stretched out with him nowhere in sight. I called for
him, and then heard him come up the stairs in the house where he was
snoozing.

Under the circumstance, I think leaving a dog like Muttley outdoors,
tethered, unaccompanied is hugely irresponsible.

Most likely it means the dogs didn't know the door was open.

Or in the case of the smart and evil ones, that they ran out the door,
had wild adventures in the neighborhood and when they heard the
owner's car returning, ran back home and sacked out so they would get
treats for being good dogs instead of getting trouble for being bad
dogs. Not that I know any dogs who would do that or anything.

Delightful story. I think your son and all the doggies deserve a special
treat. And you do too ... something in the universe must have been aligned
just right for you!!
