lgohring...
After reading the end of the Dog Whisper thread I decided to ask about
them.

How do you feel about them?

Are they worth the risk to have as a pet? Is the risk really that great
or is it more hype then truth from the media?

Pit Bulls are very popular around here. There are way to many back yard
breeders. 50.00 a pit bull puppy are listed all day every day in the
paper.

I haven't heard of any disasters in my area. I do know that if you own
a pit bull here, you are suppose to have it in a pen on a chain or the
pen has to have a roof.

It seems to me , if you have to do that, then someone is trying to tell
us something.

Kungo Bungo Ay...
my new pup is an adopted 9 week old pit and she's great, granted shes
only 9 weeks old but she is great with my other dogs and the toddlers
accross the street. I am trying to socialize her as a pup with dogs and
children so i can take her to the dog park and by children, but we'll
see with time. She also is learning VERY quickly which is great.

Socialization is key with Pitties and Rottweilers; they should be socialized
with dogs and children when they are young and ongoing, but I never let my
grandchildren play with my Rottie, she starts to get too excited and mouthy;
also if they run, she chases them, but I allow them to sit with her and pat
her. I like to keep her in a calm and happy state of mind all the time. I
hope you are planning on keeping the dog in the house,as it will not become
socialized if kept outside in a pen; it could go bad. I have seen this
happen to dogs chained up and penned up outside the house for long periods
of time; they start biting anyone who comes near them. A Pittie should be
kept inside with its family; that is where it longs to be. No one wants to
be around an unhappy Pitt Bull. Also, I would suggest walking the dog twice
a day for exercise and to keep it from getting bored. A bored Pitt Bull
could also get into lots of trouble.
