Our neighbor, who is a fabulous dog-sitter, has a sister that shows
Borzoi, so I know she spends a lot of time around them. She has told me
that our mutt has a coat like a Borzoi. Now, I don't think there's one
drop of Borzoi in Bella, but I can believe that there is great
similarity in the coat (at least according to the breed description)
although Bella's chest is very full and silky.

Every brush, slicker or comb I've tried doesn't really get the dead
hair out. I don't want to use electric clippers on her.

Any suggestions?

Hard to say without seeing the dog - - Borzoi coats can vary greatly.
I use a pin brush on both my Borzoi, and their coats are completely
different. If that doesn't work, try an undercoat rake. They come

Thanks. I couldn't think of the name of the thing. I have a fine tooth
metal comb which does get some of the dead coat and the slicker works a
little, too, but this dog has a lot of hair that needs to come off.

If her coat is anything like Anna the Borzoi's, I'd suggest thinning
her coat with one of those, um, thinning shears.

Right now all that silky hair is flying off of her as she moves and
it's almost like she's walking in a cloud.

sighthounds & siberians...
We have a white cloud here too. Her hair is long and silky and sticks
to everything, wraps around the vacuum cleaner parts, etc. The other
Borzoi got a cross between a puppy cut and a shave for the summer.
I'm not normally a fan of that, but she's got megaesophagus and had a
tieback for laryngeal paralysis; it's important to keep her cool, and
she is much more comfortable without all that thick curly coat. Plus
she's easier to clean up when she regurgitates, which happens

montana wildhack...
I'm sorry to read that.

Aside from the shedding, I hardly know how to act since we have one
almost 5 year old dog with no major health issues. It's really weird.

sighthounds & siberians...
I dream of such weirdness. Matty's death reduced the number of males

montana wildhack...
Well, as long as you're going to be so good and caring and involved in
rescue... you'll probably always have some sweet dog horking something
up and looking at you with loving eyes...

Those dogs (and cats) are lucky to have you.

sighthounds & siberians...
It's kind of you to say that. I suspect that all of our dogs and cats
are lucky to have us.

requiring belly bands for medical reasons, as well as the number of
dogs taking Previcox. But Anna's feeding routines and medications are
really expensive and time-consuming. On a good note, she stopped
eating canned food during the last bout of aspiration pneumonia (#5, I
think) and we switched her to kibble (soaked until soggy, then ground
up with a mixer until it's sort of a paste, and formed into balls).
*Much* cheaper, less messy when she inevitably coughs it all over the
vicinity and the person feeding, higher in calories, and she really
likes it, at least for now. I can't imagine what it would be like to
never chew anything crunchy again, poor dog.

Borzoi coats. If all else fails, maybe one of those mat raker things.
