Can anyone help me with one of my Scotties.

Breiagh has recently lost her best friend and is now very morose when
in the house. She is four years old and usually an extrovert. Her
Mother lives with us so she is not an only dog.

Her companion Ailsa died three months ago and it is distressing to see
her like this.
She has lots of love and attention. I would be grateful for any ideas.

Sorry for your loss.

I would take Breiagh to the vet. Three months IMO is a long time for a dog
to mourn. She may be ill.

Reka was bereaved over the loss of Danny for over a year. She finally put
it aside when we got another dog. Danny was bereaved over the loss of Senja
for several months.. until we got him Reka.

I was talking to a woman at the dog park a couple of months ago who had two
cute little dogs. I asked her about her dogs, and she told me that one of
her dogs had died and her other dog had been depressed, so she went and got
another dog as a companion to the depressed dog, and the depressed dog has
been fine since then. I would think, though, it might be best to get a dog
closer in age to the dog that is depressed, and also bring the depressed dog
on some neutral ground to meet the prospective new friend to see if they get
along first. Then, again, that would only be an option if you were
interested in adopting a new friend. Possibly, the depressed dog is not
depressed, but sick, so first I would take the dog to the vet to eliminate
any possibility of that being the case.
