I just got a puppy - she is now 9 weeks old and likes to nip and chase
my pant legs - I notice she does it when she has been outside for
awhile and wonder if there is such thing as over stimulus? How to get
them to stop nipping? I hold her and sometimes she will let me keep her
in my arms but more often she wiggles out. Any ideas on such behavior?
Normal?

Totally normal for a puppy that age and very important that you train
her not to do it if you want a peaceful life for the next couple of
years. What breed is your puppy? Do you have any puppy kindergarten
classes near you?

I use this method on my dogs to stop them from biting, and it works VERY
well and fast. If you do something a dog LIKES,it rewards them for doing

I am sure it stops the nipping. However it will cause other problems
with the dog. Some of the problems that appear soon or later are not
associated with the 'Gag' assault. However it causes behavior and
health problems later on.

It would ABSOLUTELY NOT 'LIKE' the GAG Assault !

The dog does not associate other times when it is given a reward with
the Gag Assault.
An Assault is an assault. Good memories do not come from it.
The only association the dog would have is fear of the person.

it.This is not violent, but it isn't something the dog likes either.

This is normal for a puppy. Get a pop or beer can, put five pennies in
it. Tape the opening of the can with some tape. When the puppy nips
shake the can first and then say OFF.

Thereby interrupting the immediate behavior but doing absolutely
nothing to teach the pup bite inhibition or what behavior is desired
instead.
