I've got a six foot fence and a black and tan coonhound mix dog who likes to
dig. My vet suggested digging a trench and lining the fence with
cinderblocks. The cinderblocks aren't very expensive, but I have over 200
feet of fence and the digging is backbreaking work
Is there an easier way?

Teach your dog to stop digging.

I don't know if it's easier, but you can lay wire fencing (like
chicken wire) flat on the ground up next to the fence. The dog
can't dig through it, and having to tunnel 2-3 feet under the
wire might discourage him/her. Grass will grow up through it and
you probably won't be able to see it by next year.

Several possibilities:
1) install a hotwire around the inside of your fence about
9-12" above the ground
2) bury hardware cloth a few inches down - it's still
digging, but not as much
3) rent a mini-backhoe or trench digger
