Paul B...
We are leaving NZ in 2 weeks and moving to the UK and the dogs are
coming. Sam is 8 and Roz is 7 and they have never been crated ever, but
soon they are going to be in wooden crates sized perfectly for each dog
with just enough room to stand, turn and lie down for 37 hours with no
food and only water in a strange environment (airplane hold) with no
familiar faces to support them.

AnimalBehaviorForensicSciencesResearchLaboratory...
That'll be a tough trip for them but they'll do just fine, Disciple
Paulie. Put a rope or chain around the crate so's it can't be broken
out of in case they try to get HOWEt and EXXXPECT them to mess
themselves
during the ordeal, so line the bottoms heavily with newspaper. Feed and
EXXXORCISE them a couple HOWERS pryor to shipping and affix a water
bottle to the door.

I have just picked up the crates they will be transported in so I can
get them used to being in them to reduce the stress of the trip.

AnimalBehaviorForensicSciencesResearchLaboratory...
That's no problemo, Disciple Paulie.

The dogs sleep in our bedroom in their dog baskets, they have been
removed and the crates put in there place with open doors and the
blankets have been put into the crates.

I have asked each dog to enter the crate, praised them and told them how
lucky they are to have new beds. (Yeah right aren't we just spoilt rotten).

Now this is only day 1 but last time I looked Sam was quite happily
lying in his crate (with open door) while Roz still prefers the comfort
of under our bed since her bed has been replaced with the crate. No
problem yet but I'm surprised as Sam is the one who hates confinement
and I thought he would be the one who may be hard to convince, where as
Roz never seems to worry about confinement but isn't getting into the
crate too soon, maybe she's just sussing things out, seeing what the big
picture is.

AnimalBehaviorForensicSciencesResearchLaboratory...
The Simply Amazing Puppy Wizard believes THAT'S part of Roz's PROBLEM
with her "spay incontinence", Disciple Paulie. That she prefers under
the bed is a SYMPTOM of insecurity which contributes to her
incontinence,
as stated pryor <{): ~ ( >

I'm not expecting any problems, I'm sure both dogs will be sleeping in
the crates without a thought in a day or 2 but I'm surprised which dog
accepted the crate first, you just never know.

AnimalBehaviorForensicSciencesResearchLaboratory...
Just follow the distraction and praise techniques if either of them
object
to being closed in and they'll accept it just fine, Disciple Paulie
<{); ~ ) >

Another thing about animal intuition, the day the house sold we bought
our tickets to the UK, the dogs knew something was up immediately, not
good not bad but they knew a change was coming I could tell, it wasn't
as if they were worried what the changes were but they were concerned
that they may not be included and they just made sure we knew they were
there and wanted to be part of it.

AnimalBehaviorForensicSciencesResearchLaboratory...
Yeah. Dogs seem to know EVERY THING, Disciple Paulie <{); ~ ) >

BHOWEN VOYAGE, Disciple Paulie <{); ~ ) >

"A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones".
Proverbs 17:22

Blessed are all who take refuge in HIM.

Jerry 21 And unto this people thou shalt say,
Thus saith the LORD Of DOG;
Behold, I set before you
The Way Of Life,
And
The Way Of Death.

And Disciple Paulie said unto them, Thus shall ye
say to your master, Thus saith The LORD Of DOG,
Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard,
with which the servants of koehler and university
trained behaviorists and veterinary malpracticioners
have blasphemed me.

Disciple Paulie Sez:

"No One Understands How Wits End Training Really
Works, They Assume It's All Nicey Nicey And don't
Realise It's A Very Disciplined Method That Deals With
Any Situation And The Foundation Is Built On Trust
And Understanding.

I've never forced my dogs to do anything, I tell them
they are good dogs and they seem to follow me, once
I told them they were bad dogs and they ran away from
me, now I only ever tell them they are good dogs and
they always are, always.

Trust your dog, ask it to do your request and say "good
dog" sincerely at the end of the request and I bet you'll
find your dog thinking then responding everytime.
A bit of respect works wonders, the same rule applies
to every aspect of the relationship with your dog.

Obedience and affection are not related, if they were
everyone would have obedient dogs.

I have found giving dogs "payment" in advance i.e. "Sam
sit goodboy" makes the dogs want to respond, after all,
all dogs want to be "good dogs" and if you tell them they
are good then they feel an obligation to obey your request.

Telling Sam he's a good dog AFTER he sit's apart from
been too late is also a gamble because if he doesn't
sit then there's no positive interaction.

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth:
I came not to send peace,
but a sword.
"For I am come to set a man at variance against his father,
and the daughter against her mother,
the daughter in law against her mother in law
and the scholar against his professors.
"And a man's foes shall be they of his own HOWEshold."
The Puppy Prophet <{); ~ ) >

All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

"Thank you for fighting the fine fight--
even tho it's a hopeless task,
in this system of things.
As long as man is ruling man,
there will be animals (and humans!)
abused and neglected. :-(
