"My border collie is smarter than your honor's student"

Paula...
Who's sic, the BC or the honors student? :)

flick...
Should that apostrophe be in there? "Honor's"?

I thought it was just plural.

"My Border Collie is smarter than the person who typeset
this bumpersticker."

flick...
LOL!

Paula...
I don't think it should be, grammatically speaking, but it was.

sighthounds & siberians...
So what that means is that the aforementioned BC is smarter than some
unknown judge's student, right?

Paula...
There you go!

I remember the first time I heard incorrect grammar in a song and read
something that was wrong in a book. Before then, I had, in my naive
childish way, assumed there was some kind of rule that if you were
going to do something public, like a song, a book, an article, a sign,
a bumper sticker, you had to make sure it had correct grammar and
spelling. What a shocker real life turned out to be!

sighthounds & siberians...
There *should* be a rule to that effect. Or a law, even; look at all
the ridiculous laws on the books, why not a grammar law? I have an
idea: let's think of possible penalties for violating the rule.

Paula...
They have to rewrite it on a white board 500 times. In rainbow
writing.

What never ceases to shock me is how much better my grammar (and
writing in general) is than that of those for whom I work.

Paula...
Me, too, and I work with teachers and teachers who have become
administrators.

Kathleen...
I've got that one on my van. I was taken to task for the irreverent
sentiment by a sanctimonious old futz at one of the schools where I
substitute teach. I told him that I have two honor students and two
border collies and am in a good position to know the facts of the matter.

AMB...
The one I like is:

My Greyhound can outrun your honor student.

bill.reich...
If it's not on flat ground, my neighbro's BC can outrun that Greyhound.

Rocky...
It's easy to pick the winner when you also mandate the
restrictions to the race.

Yes. I've helped train a few.

breeds?

sighthounds & siberians...
Sure they do; what's your point? Greyhounds aren't the best agility
dogs, for a variety of reasons, the primary one being that they're
hounds. They are, however, bred to run, and they can run up to about
43 mph for short distances. I have a difficult time believing that
your neighbor's BC can outrun a Greyhound.

Suja...
I've watched a lot of dogs try to outrun Greyhounds, and it's a fool's
errand. They can keep up, as long as the Grey is humoring them, or they
cheat. Greys have an extra gear or two that they can shift into when
necessary, and it's kind of fun to watch the look on the other dogs' faces
when they're left behind.

TOTE...
I watched a Greyhound's smug little expression disappear when he realized
that my dog was gaining on him and he HAD to shift into high gear. Yeah -
he left my guy in the dust. Greyhound's human laughed too, Oso was the
first dog to match even his crusing speed.

TOTE...
In the US dogs compete against a standard, not against each other. Well,
there are placements, but mostly those aren't how you advance. So people
do enter Greyhounds in agility trials. And they have fun. And they title.
