Hi Y'all,
I live in Fl and stay prepared for hurricanes, but my dog family has
increased this year, so it is gonna take a little more organizing. If
you live in Fl I do not possible see how you could not be prepared
unless you do not watch TV. If you are new to Fl keep in mind that when
they show their maps with the projected path of the storm. It doesn't
always go just like they plan it.
If you decide to ride it out and change your mind in the middle. They
may come and get you (iffy) but they most likely are not gonna take your
animals. If you do leave them behind please do not leave them chained
up, inside with no food blah blah blah....IMO do not leave them period.
I choose to stay and ride it out usually. If I leave I take them with
me. You can believe the power will go off and worse than that you may
not be able to get back to your house after the storm. Often the roads
are closed or blocked with debris or they won't let you in because they
fear looters...
I know this isn't a Katrina and we don't live in NOLA. I would have
been long gone before that storm came ashore.
I have 250 year old oak trees in my yard some branches came down last
year (and they were the size of a tree) took out part of my BR roof
destroyed my yard and fences, but in the big picture I came out fine and
I got hit 3 times....
Oh if you opt to flee to a motel further North my experience has been
they bend their rules about accepting pets. There are some shelters
that take pets but I would rather stay at home than go that route until
the power goes out.
I still have MRE's (military rations) left from last year. After the
storm is the worst I was out of power for 4 storms last year. an
average of 8 days each time....
If your new to the Carolinas and don't watch Tv these rules apply, it
appears, it may be heading that way.
Don't think it won't happen to you cause it sure enuff can. Be Safe
and Good Luck.
PS The people that aren't ripping, robbing and scamming come together
and help each other it is such a wonderful thing to see. One neighbor
shared his generator with me. Can you imagine? I found milk and took
it to him. He was thrilled. My other neighbors decided to pull up and
they brought me their ice and soda....
Be Free,
Judy
