Does anyone know of a good doggy day care/boarding facility in the
Playa Del Rey, CA (Marina Del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica, etc) area that
follows Cesar Millan's methods?

You should probably direct your question to folks who live
and work in the area, like lying "I LOVE KOEHLER" lynn:

"Granted That The Dog Who Fears Retribution
Will Adore His Owner," lying "I LOVE KOEHLER"
lynn.

lyinglynn writes to a new foster care giver:
For barking in the crate - leave the leash on and
pass it through the crate door. Attach a line to
it. When he barks, use the line for a correction.-
if necessary, go to a citronella bark collar," Lynn K.

"Training is not confrontation,"Lynn K.

"Unfortunately, some confrontation is necessary,
just to be able to handle the dogs. For example,
we need to crate train a dog immediately because
they are usually in need of medical care and they
are in foster homes with other dogs. It's a safety
necessity," lying "I LOVE KOEHLER" lynn.

"Training is not confrontation,"Lynn K.

"So what? Whoever said that it's right to
always not confront? We sure can try, but
a dog who knows a command and growls when
given it is certainly being confrontational".
You can't simply walk away and pretend it
didn't happen or leave it for later work in
every situation." Lynn K.

Any thoughts?

You jut gotta find the right day care provider:

"I wouldn't do anything because Friday would correct him more
appropriately than I ever could. I'd separate them or watch them
closely. If I can catch them at it before the behaviour itself
becomes rewarding, I use my marker word. If I can catch them even
earlier (when the intent to commit misbehaviour is forming in their
evil minds), distraction works. The latter works better than the
former when it comes to their protecting me from the mailman.
Management, redirection, distraction, aversives, Paula's socks,
combinations thereof - it's all good," matt. Rocky's my epileptic dog.

I never knew they trained the dogs also; does that cost extra?

Rocky...
I do. I don't know about other daycares. For all I know,
they turn away unruly dogs, which has the same effect as me
training the ones which come here: It makes life easier for
the daycare.

Part of my credo, though, states that I'll do pretty much
anything to keep a dog in his current home.

Rocky...
I don't charge. I train them because I'm basically lazy: in
the long run, a trained dog is easier for me to have around
than an untrained dog.

Shelly...
That's my approach to dogsitting. I do what I can to train the dogs to
a degree that my time with them is pleasant. Then, the owner comes home
and re-"trains" them. Hrmf.

You may have heard of me: The Dog Shouter. I don't do
anything mysterious.

I use the training collar with which the dog comes; if he
doesn't come with one, and I think that the owner would
benefit from one, I show them the various ones I have around
here: choke chain, pinch collar, Gentle Leader, and Halti. I
explain the general concepts behind clicker training. A SCWT
comes with a Sensation harness, this works well for him and I
think I'll expand my show and tell by buying one.

For real training, there are a few trainers I recommend, the
first being a clicker trainer. If a client shows up with a
poorly fitted training collar (prongs and chokes seem to be
rarely properly fitted), I show them how it should be properly
used and encourage them to clear up any misunderstandings they
may have had with their obedience instructor.

That is great if they do that?

Rocky...
I can't see a down side.

Or, at the other end of the spectrum, Rocky cowers,
thinking I'm angry at him - a reason I don't "yuk out"
others' dogs at agility trials or training.
