Q...
Hi - we came home yesturday and found our golden retreiver under a big
tree just laying there. Her hips have been broken. Not sure if someone
put her there or if she managed to crawl there. Anyway she has been
taken to the vet and things are not looking good. She won't be able to
stand up or move for atleast 4-6 weeks. She's a farm dog and used to
running around, so it's extremely hard for us right now to watch her
suffer. She's on lots of morphene and the vets are trying to control
things. All I'm asking is if you all can just think about Nellie today
doing whatever and perhaps send her your wishes.
I am hoping if more people send energy her way she will get better.

flick...
Energy sending, from all of us.

So sorry this happened.

Michael A. Ball...
How sad. I feel it. :-(

Being old-fashioned, I'll send a prayer--God has a lot more energy than
I do.

I'll be hoping for, and expecting Nellie's recovery.

diddy...
I'm hoping for Nellie's recovery and pain relief. But Q....I have words

FurPaw...
Hey! That required a beverage alert!

FurPaw, wiping coffee off screen

for YOU. You deserve every bit of Nellie's suffering transferred to YOU.
You allowed her to run free. You allowed her to be in a position of danger.
True, she's a farm dog. I have farm dogs. When they are working, they are
with me. Under my control. When they are NOT working, they are in the house
or in the FENCE. You don't allow your livestock to run free, and neither
should your dog.

If you like your dog, you keep it home and SAFE.

Q...
Of course if I could take away her pain I would, as I would with any
animal. But you wouldn't tie your kids up so why would u tie your dogs
up. We live in the boonies, there are never ever any cars up our road

shelly...
I don't have kids, but if I did, I'm pretty sure I would not leave
them loose all day, unsupervised. Not that dogs are much like kids,
that is. Also, I find that fences are a pretty good way to keep
dogs contained.

shelly...
Amazing! So do I! And, I really, really, *really* hate it that my
neighbors allow their dogs to run free. I would never harm them,
but I *would* be perfectly within my rights to shoot them when they
come on my property.

Sionnach...
She didn't suggest "tying your dogs up". She suggested not letting them run
loose and unsupervised, which is not at ALL the same thing.

as it's a dead end road!! This is not our fault. Dogs are not livestock

shelly...
Apparently, that is untrue.

shelly...
Whose fault is it, then? You are responsible for your dog. If
someone had been hurt, or their car damaged, when it hit your loose
dog, *you* would likely be responsible for paying their medical and
car repair bills.

Sionnach...
Sorry, I disagree. I live part time "in the boonies", and would NEVER let
my dogs run loose and unsupervised. If I'm outside, they're usually with me.
If I'm inside, they're INSIDE WITH ME.

they are our children, part of the family - they are not work dogs nor

shelly...
No, dogs are not livestock. Nor are they your children. They are
dogs, and should be treated as such. Letting them loose to roam is
irresponsible.

Sionnach...
Then they should be IN THE HOUSE with you when you're not outside with
them.

shoudl they be and I would never recommend to anyone to tie their
children up!

Marcel Beaudoin...
Mental note to self - Never let Q babysit my daughter.

Damn right I would confine my daughter (and any future kids I have) behind
a fence, in a house, in a room when I am not able to watch them.

shelly...
Heck, you might even leash her in public.

Thanks for everyone's wishes sending energy her way - that is all I ask
for Nellie.
Q

Thank u!
Q

karsan...
my dog Joe died because he got hit by a car. I loved Joe so much.

flick...
Karsan, I'm so glad you're back in here.

How are you? I hope your family is fine. I've been thinking about you and
your mother, and of course Joe.

Michael A. Ball...
In contrast to the responses Q has received thus far, I remember all of
the many compassionate responses you received. At the time I stopped
reading that thread, no one had asked, "Was your dog in the street, or
did the driver drive onto your property to hit your dog?"

Mary Healey...
As I recall, karsan's dog was on leash. Karsan's mother was walking the
dog. Both dog and mom were hit -- dog died, mom was hurt.

Maybe I remember it wrong?

Paul E. Schoen...
Yes, I remember the thread very well, as it somehow appeared much delayed
on my newsreader. I think Sabina's mother was actually dragged by the car,
perhaps by the leash. I offer my belated condolences and best wishes, and
hope the driver is brought to justice. The longer a dog (or any animal) is
part of your life, the more he becomes precious. I feel that way about
Muttley, and giving him up for adoption will be difficult. However, I have
the choice to assure that he will be safe and well-loved. To experience
such a traumatic sudden loss must be devastating.

I know Muttley would be happier if he could run free, and I felt happy for
him the few times he did accidentally break loose, although I worried a lot
until he came back. He seemed to have a wonderful smile as he ran through
the woods, circled around past me to explore another area, and then very
willingly return to let me attach his leash. He scared me the most when he
ran across the often busy road, and I had to cross over to my neighbors' to
get him safely back on his leash.

Michael A. Ball...
No, I believe you remember correctly, because I see others saying the
same thing. I missed important an important message. Thanks for the
help.

I live where traffic is supposed to be under 20 mph, but it isn't
always. In places where the sidewalk is adjacent the curb, with no
parking, I have to be very vigilant that my dogs don't get off the
sidewalk. They're on 4-foot leashes, but that is long enough to get into
trouble. :-(

When I die, I want to go where dogs go!

Janet B...
Since her MOTHER was hit as well, I was kind of going along the
assumption that Joe was on leash and legally in the street or walking
somewhere else legally.

Paula...
As I recall, her dog was on a leash and being walked by her mother,
who was also hit by the car. Perhpas that is why no one told her to
confine her dog differently.

Whatever it takes.

Les Hilliard...
If I recall, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, Sabina's mother was
walking Joe, on a leash, across the street and was hit by a car and I
believe the driver just drove off. Joe was killed and Sabina's mother was
severely injured. I certianly hope she is recovering ok now.

Agroms...
How terrible! So sorry for you (and her).
