Last you heard of my puppy, he was just born. He's now 5 months old and I
thought I'd give you an update on his progress.
Tuck has been entered in Search and Rescue development classes in with
Task force One .
He and I are attending a Tracking Seminar this weekend. He's developed a
couple of nasty little tracking quirks that i need to address.
I also entered him in a tracking class. They took one look at him
tracking and asked what we were doing there? (he's doing 5 turns and
aging 20 minutes)
I said simply, my last dog (Reka) got messed up by tracklayers who knew
nothing about what they were doing, and i needed cntacts with people who
did. I wasn't going to mess this puppy up like her. They accepted that
answer.
I hadn't taken Tracking classes since Danny, 13 years ago. One woman
looked, and said, that puppy looks EXACTLY like the dog you had before.
Facial expressions, mannerisms, seriousness, watchful, yet quiet,
dedicated to task and a whole lot of other things.
I said, all elkhounds look alike. She says no, that dog I had was very
different. He had quiet intelligent intensity. This dog has that. You
just don't see that kind of intelligence, intensity, control, and quiet
all in the same package very often. When you do, you remember it.
I said, that was Danny.
She asked if he was still with us. i said no, he died 2 years ago. But
this is his son, btw. Well he looks just like him. And he does.
She remembered Danny after all these years. She said he tracks like his
dad too. And he does.

I would imagine that the Tuck's similarity to Danny is somewhat
bittersweet. I'd like to see pictures.
