dan...
Can anyone recommend anything for a 3-year-old labrador that gets
extremely nervous and hot on car rides? No matter what I have tried she
will not settle down and relax. My business is relocating to the
Carolina's from New York and I'd like the 12+ hour car ride to be easy

The Carolina's is not a place. There is North Carolina and South
Carolina. got it!

on her if at all possible.

this is a circumstance where a sedative is very useful (long car trip,

not around town). if she gets hot - keep your car cooler (YOU can

The dog AIN'T "HOT", janet, the dog is havin PAINICK ATTACKS.

Perhaps he should just tell IT to SHUT UP, eh janet?:

yes - screaming banshees are told to shut up! And I
always have to remind spouses that they may NOT do the

wear a sweater). Crating a dog often makes them feel more secure, and
sometimes a harness/seat belt does as well - the less moving around,
the better off they are. Acclimating your dog to the car in a process
of sitting in a car that doesn't move, short trips, feeding in the car
to get a good association - all very helpful. A shame to allow a dog
to have a car phobia - it really limits their life. I hope that
before and after the move, you continue to work towards her being
relaxed in the car - it's good for everyone.

Ginger biscuits (cookies) might help too - they are apparently very good for
preventing feelings of motion sickness, which may well be contributory to
his dislike of travel.... and I'm sure they'll make him a lot happier about
the whole thing too :)
