New year's Eve .. Sunday morning .. last day of the year and it is
trying to rain outside!!! halelujah
Just been looking at the pretty useful NSW state archives on-line
indexes - I haven't really needed to before - all the ancestors came
directly into Victoria - anyhow - I did the usual - you know - enter
my surname and not expect to find anything - but whacko - I did find
somebody - about the right age to be my grt, grt.grandfather's sister -
according to the Assisted immigrants arriving in Sydney & Newcastle,
1844-59 index - the young lady came to Australia on the boat JOSHUA
which arrived in 1858.
Would SKS please advise: when did the Joshua arrive in Australia and at
which port and where had it come from and who was the captain ... I'm

Robert
Had you looked in more detail at NSW State Records on line
indexes you would have found
This says the 'Joshua' arrived 6 Apr 1858 , more than
likely into port of Sydney
Captains name might be on the film/s of the passenger
lists ??
Early digitised newspapers such as 'The Shipping
Gazette' dont go as far as 1858 .
If Capt name not included in passenger info suggest you
check out the shipping column in the Sydney Morning Herald
for around this date
