Hi genies,
I am interested in the shipping departure of the above regiment which left
New Zealand in June 1866 for Portsmouth.
I don't have the ship's name so I can't check the newspapers.
Is there SKS with a military book which could have this information?

The iron transport, Capt. Edwin Gooch, left Auckland 29 Jun 1866 with
400 troops and arrived in England on 23 Oct 1866. It seems that none
of the troops were from the 40th Regiment however. They consisted of
the C battery of Royal Artillery and the 6th company of Royal
Engineers. The Trevelyn had originally left Plymouth on the 15 Dec
1865 with passengers for Adelaide.

Of course, the iron transport I referred to wasn't called "Capt. Edwin
Gooch" (he was the master) but the Trevelyn.
