free Ancestry sites

First I would like to thank everyone who has helped me in my McCULLOCH
look ups, especially Di and Jeanine and sorry anyone I missed.

I have read within the last two weeks, I think, where someone asked
about good sites to look up.
And wouldn't you know, I can't find it.

These is an enormous amount of free genealogical info
such as to be found in just these 3 examples

As a newbie I would love to carry on with this great hobby, but as a
Pensioner I can't afford to pay for sites by credits, whatever they may
be.

scotlandspeople and findmypast sites are 2 that you have
to pay to access ( but not scotlandspeoples indexes ) .
Findmypast is still cheap
Previously to check the English GRO BDM index I had a 4
hour return train trip to go to the NSW State Library
that me cost $20 . Now I can look it up on the Net from
comfort of home

Many FHS and Council libraries have a connection to
Ancestry.com .
My local FHS library does as does one library for FREE

Rootsweb has close to 30,000 FREE mailing lists plus there
are alot of others like Genforum

My ancestors are German, British, and Scots that make up five
generations of Australians.
So could somebody help me please. The GENUKI just completely confused

Why on earth should it do that ? GENUKI has developed
over a number of year ............grew with the internet

The only other site that come to mind apart from the 2
already mentioned is the VIC BDMs . They make a small
charge to access the indexes but then only charge $17.50
to download copy of which ever doc ......a bargain in
compassion to eg the SA Registries charges and no on line
indexes

All hobbies cost monies . My husbands is fishing
.......... that can be like putting money into a black
hole
