Hello All

Does anyone know if there were two ships named Morning Star, sailing at the
same time.
There was one, a missionary ship out of America, that seemed to sail around
the Pacific Islands.
A family member claims an ancestor (Richard Fitzwilliam Spencer) arrived on
the Morning Star 1857 and there is such an entry (Richard Wm) on the PROV

Bristol, June 2.
The Morning Star, Captain Allen, arrived in Kingroad this afternoon,
from Melbourne, from which port she sailed on the 12th of February.
Her advices have, of course, been anticipated by the overland mail.
She brings 1,500 bales of wool, 31 bales of sheepskins, 19 bales of
leather, 453 bags of gum, 250 tons of copper ore, 30 tons black sand
(tin ore), 46,500 ounces of golddust, and 112 passengers. A
steampacket has been despatched from Bristol, on board which the gold
will be transferred, and on its arrival here it will be immediately
forwarded to London.

For what it's worth, here are two articles on the Morning Star, one
1856, the other 1858:

But this seems to me to be a different ship.
There is no reason to suppose Richard was ever near America or that the
Missionary ship came to Australia.

Any clues ?

Tom Perrett...
Kate,

Vols 1 and @ of Log of Logs have the
missionary brig "Morning Star", while
volume three has a "Morning Star"
three voyages mentioned :

- 1859: Liverpool to Melburne
- 1862: Birkenhead, Liverpool to Adelaide
- 1863: Not stated but the diary mentioned is
in the Mortlock Library of Sth Aus.

Just because 1857 is not mentioned does
not mean the vessel did not make a voyage,
it only means there was no "log" that the
author could find.

Cheers,

Tom [Tom Perrett]
