Re: What is GENANZ for?

I too received lots of private emails of support
(which I appreciated) but it is a shame they weren't
posted to the list because that would have made sure
everyone had a better picture of just how many people
really are tired of seeing the results of the
increasing number of "look-up" requests GENANZ has had
lately.

I agree it is also a shame that what was, in fact,
rather a serious post was allowed to be taken off on
so many irrelevant, emotional tangents by a handful of
people.

So much of what has been on GENANZ in the last few
days has had me shaking my head and thinking "this is
a genealogy list, it is NOT the place to get
personal."

GENANZ is not a penpal list. We are here to pursue
family history and genealogy, not to meet "new
friends" - although that does happen sometimes and is
one of life's lovely bonuses when it does.

The internet is a quirky beast, so there might be
someone from time to time who needs a gentle urge to
remember why GENANZ was created but, please, if they
don't respond appropriately, make it a rule to IGNORE
them next time.

The words of a classic old song come to mind here
(hmm, showing my age perhaps?) which are:

You gotta accentuate the positive,
Eliminate [i.e. ignore] the negative,
Latch on to the affirmative
And don't mess with Mr In-Between.

So, more power to GENANZ, onwards and upwards may it
go. After all, there was really only a little bit of
nonsense and we're all "big kids" now .
