As part of some family history research I am doing for a relation in the UK,
I am trying to trace a painting which went missing from his Mother's estate
that was being administered by the Public Trustee's Office in Adelaide in
1973. The painting was by Augustus Earle and is of Commodore Thomas
Sackville Crosbie of the Brazilian Navy (in uniform) and was painted in Rio
de Janeiro in 1823. I realize this is a bit off subject and also a longshot

Hi Max

Wouldnt there be catalogues of his work ? Held perhaps
by someone like Sotheby's, major art galleries . What
does the PTO have to say about this ? Was her estate
eventually probated ?. Did the SA Police get involved ?

Why did said rel wait 33 years to do something about this
?

but if anyone on the list may have seen it in a private home or private art
collection I would be very appreciative of the info. I have a digitally
reproduced copy of the subject, in the original colour, that was made from a
small black and white photograph that I can email to anyone who may be
interested and think they may have seen the portrait in question. Max M
