Have located the following 3 references in my search for ancestors.

KERR'S MELBOURNE ALMANAC AND PORT PHILLIP DIRECTORY, 1841
Donalds and Hamilton, Booradool, Pyranees, Geelong

PORT PHILLIP DIRECTORY - mid to late 1840's
Donald & Hamilton, settlers, Brodgulla, Pyrenees

SUPERINTENDENT'S CORRESPONDENCE FILES 1839 -1851 LIST OF SQUATTERS
Year 1841
Donald & Hamilton, 'Langi Kal Kal' run, squatters within Grant County
Donalds & Hamilton, 'Pyrenees' run, squatters in Westernport District

Can anyone tell me please if these (on face value - with the locations
given) are possibly the same people? Are the locations provided
considered the same locations - or close to it?

I ask because an ancestor as an exile was picked up by a company
'Donald and Hamilton', Pyrenees in 1847 as a shiphand.

Hi Glenn,

I realise I'm not answering your actual question, but just as a possible
source of further information, I was having a look at early Government
Gazettes a few months ago and I can recall seeing lists of partnerships
- the partners full names and the date of the partnership. As if they
had to be registered - I'm not really sure what the story is behind it,
but it can be handy. The Gazettes are now available through LANDATA if
you can't get to the State Library.

Also, for anyone researching people in the Port Phillip District prior
to the gold rush should have a look at the index to VPRS 19, Colonial
Secretary's Inwards Correspondence, which is located on the Royal
Historical Society of Victoria website.
Online. I notice some references to the partnership Donald & Hamilton,
and there would be other refs with their first names or one surname only.

The actual correspondence is in the Public Records Office Victoria -
real gold-dust!

Best wishes,
