I'm new to this board and am wondering if anyone could supply me with a =
way to research a member of my family who was in the Rutherglen Victoria =
area in the early 1860's. I am under the impression that he was a =
goldminer (family gossip) but to date I have been unable to find any =
information to support or disclaim this theory.

Hi Sue,
You might try contacting the Rutherglen Historical Society, which has a
very nice museum and historical collection, well worth a visit if you
are up that way.
Contact details for Rutherglen Historical Society and other Victorian
historical societies are available through the Royal Historical Society
of Victoria "Affiliated Societies Database"
The database server itself seems to be having a few difficulties this
week, but I presume will be fixed as soon as someone gets back from
their break.
There are lots of other databases linked on the above webpage, so have a
good look round.
Best wishes,
Lenore Frost
