Hi I am new to this site.Is anyone researching or know anything about
RUSSELL family came out from Gloucestershire England on the "Ward
Chapman" in1841 to Port Phillip. Benjamin & Esther (parents) William &
George (sons) . Benjamin & Esther had 4 more children after arriving in
Australia;Elizabeth b 1843 St James Melbourne,Charlotte b 1845 Sarah b
1848 & Benjamin b 1849 all christened at St james Melbourne. Can not
seem to find whereabouts after arrival of Benjamin,Esther or any of the
children born over here. George married a Elizabeth MOREY in
Beechworth. William who I believe(?) is my gggrandfather married an
Anne Ray in Wagga Wagga they had 2 children Sarah Ann b 1864 & William
James b 1866. William & Anne moved to Eldorado in Victoria and had 4
more children Thomas b 1868,Walter b 1871 Mary b 1872 d 1872 & Ann b
1875. William was a carter and must have travelled between Eldorado and
Wagga Wagga frequently as my ggrandfather was conceived by a woman
other than his wife her name was Frances Elizabeth MUMFORD nee SKEGGS.
George Benjamin RUSSELL b 1878 in Wagga Wagga. George later married in
Euroa Victoria to a Mary Elizabeth HANLEY nee ECCLES. William and
Frances also married in 1899 in Melbourne. Frances died in 1914 in
Euroa,William died in 1922 in Narrandera where most of his children
from his 1st marriage were living at the time.
My problem is that I can't find where the rest of the RUSSELL family
went after they arrived in Australia. None of Williams certificates
indicate that he even had anything to do with his family after arrival.
I feel he may have been sent to work not long after arrival he could
not write so I don't think he was educated. All I know is that his
fathers occupation was a sawyer/carpenter and mothers was housekeeper.
I have no living relatives that know anything about the RUSSELLS as
no-one even knew George Benjamin RUSSELL my ggrandfather even had
siblings. Can anyone come up with a suggestion or know of anyone
researching this family or connection there of?
Desperate for ideas!

Deb,
You have given what i like in the way of detail.
Not sure I /we have at our disposal CD s fiche or Internet records
,BUT, I will endeavour to point you to whatever.
Your only "black mark" -- to me - is you do not mention -- what
you have checked
and you do not give your whereabouts ( which usually suggests what
records you could have checked) although
the -- echuca -- may be a clue.
My comments may seem harsh ( as will the Lurkers who love to
criticize) but hope you will understand.
